Hey, My name is Wil & I'm from San Francisco.  Proud owner of this '92

Runs well enough but previous owners have let it fall out of shape.  First bike so I'm starting small & working my way up

So far:

- removed the blue balls from the plate, seriously WTF??
- swapped out the stock mirrors for convex SV650's
- replaced rear brakes
- begun removing rust

Many more aspirations to come...

Hey wil, which part of sf are you located? I'm in the inner richmond area.

That probably has to be the single most gorgeous GS I have ever seen.  Very nice work.

I'm Jason, from London, Ontario, Canada. Just picked up an 08 with 1000kms on it three weeks ago, put 1000kms on it already and love it. Just installed a v&h exhaust last weekend, have a lunchbox and jet kit still waiting to go in. I got a used dynojet kit and it is missing the slide springs, does anyone know where I can get these or can I use the stock ones?

I'm John from Windsor Locks, Connecticut. I'm retired and a grandfather with 3 grandchildren  :star: :star: :star:. I bought a black '91 about a month ago. I enjoy tinkering with it as much as I enjoy riding it.

You don't stop riding because you get old, you get old because you stopped riding. Hope that's true.

Newbie from Alberta, Canada.  Typical 39yr old midlife crysis :icon_twisted:...married with children...three girls :cookoo:...I've wanted to get a bike since I sold my first one when I was 13.  Now I have the income to afford the toy.  I am an industrial electrician turned management for an oil field energy company...life is good, so I told the wife that I was doing one of three things: getting a sports car or muscle car, getting dirt bikes for me and the kids (her too if she wanted), or getting a street bike.

I nearly crapped when she said" I would rather you got the street bike" :woohoo:...woo hoo ...I honestly thought that would be the last choice for her, but hey...I spent a month looking at the different bikes, pestering the guys at the local bike shop...sitting on most of the bikes there, and I'm sure I miss lead a couple of salesmen :dunno_black:...I signed up for the beginner riding course, and thought I would wait until I took the course before I bought a bike...but me being me, I couldn't help but still look...a 2003 GS500e went up for sale about four blocks from my house...how could I not go and look...of course that turned into, how could I not buy it...now I have a bike and I have to wait another 10 days before the course and a license...I'll make it, but my wife is probably sick of me going on about my bike and when I can ride...

My name is Trey.I am 43 years young and live in Mesquite Texas with my wife and three sons. I have been riding for over 25 years. I have owned numerous bikes. I have a bad habit of buying, fixing and selling. I currently own a 2005 GS500F. It was abused by the previous owneer but I have restored it to almost showroom condition. I really enjoy riding the Suzuki because of the weight of the bike and it really is a beautiful bike. Any GS owners in the DFW area give me a shout and lets ride!

Nat, 24, from Canberra Australia.

I've got a 07 GS500, that I've had for nearly 4 months. I've done about 7000km on it in that time. Got a Ventura rack, aero spada bag and VH4 handle bars.

I'm Ben, 42, in central New Jersey. Divorcing (but not through the process yet), with two young boys (4 and 7). Learning how to ride and getting a bike are my version of the mid-life crisis vehicle.

I got a new '09 GS500F yesterday after going through the MSF course this past weekend.

Can already tell that I REALLY need to develop a smoother touch on the clutch and throttle for starting up. [I'm trying *not* to think about how many times I stalled yesterday afternoon just trying to get out of my driveway. The only thing I'll say in my defense is that I decided to start out going uphill instead of downhill (figuring that I would make right turns as I was going through the "loop" in my development)].

scroggins5000

My name's Jesse. I'm 26, and I live near Dallas TX. No kids, and I'm getting married on new years day.

I just bought a '92 GS500E from a friend to resurrect for fun that I got real cheap. It's super dirty, and needs some work. The carbs and starter have been rebuilt. There was water in the tank when I got it (It was sitting outside for a while). After a little elbow grease and some drying out I was able to get it running a couple of days ago. Now it won't fire up... Troubleshooting starts again.

I also own a Honda '78 CB750F that is in the process of being completely rebuilt into a cafe racer.

Niceness. That's pretty much all that can be said about that bike. No, wait. Awesome works, too.

Erm, suppose I should introduce myself.

Mario, 25. Engineer from Monterrey, Mexico. Just got a burnt-orange 2008 GS, after deciding that maybe, just maybe, my 1981 750cc tourer that was nearing 4 years without being able to conistently move was in dire need of an update.

Decided that 50hp was more than enough to kill me, at least for a couple years until I got back on the swing of things - you know, learning how to ride bikes that managed to do awesome stuff like turn, brake, or accelerate based on more than the current alignment of the stars and the barometric pressure of Venus.

John here from Akron, OH, new member looking for a GS for my daughter.  It will be her first bike at 23 but she's been around them her whole life as I've been riding 40 years this June and currently ride an '04 FJR bought new.  She's signed up for the MSF course but not till the end of Aug.  We checked a GS out the other day and it fit her fine.  We stopped at a dealer the other day and she got to check out a Ninja 500 too but we both like the GS best.  So the hunt is on.  I don't mind doing a bit of work on whatever we get but it's got to be a runner.  I look forward to all the info you guys and girls can and already have provided.
Take care all!

motorradfahrer

47 year-old professor here, currently in NJ with a beautiful wife and 3 boys (6/12/14). Originally from West Germany, got my license over there many ago. Wanted a GS 400 real bad but ended up spending all my $$ putting myself through grad school whilst my 2 older brothers had all the fun in the world on their Katanas.

Spent many a weary night trying to talk my wife into letting me have a 2005 GS500F, which was a real piece of work because she is much smarter than me. Finally bribed her into it by doing all sorts of home improvement projects, letting her go to Europe for a week, plus agreeing to a bunch of other husband-wife type deals you guys probably know all too well.

Stupid me didn't transfer my German motorcycle license when I got my NJ one way back, so I had to take a 3-day MSF basic rider course at a community college. The instructors were cool, but I hated the Suzuki 250 cruiser they put me on because the thing is just too small for me (6'3"), the GS500 is a much better fit. Some aspects of the course were scary because there were too many kids who had already bought R1s etc but couldn't do a decent figure 8 in the box exercise and still passed the test (wouldn't want to run into some of these guys on the road).

Learned a good deal reading this site religiously. Love it!
