I'm Mike from Western Mass.  24 years old and I'm going to be buying a 93 GS 500e.

It's going to be my first bike, so I'm definitely excited!  I'll be sure to check back here for questions and more info.

Well, I would be Chris. I live outside of Sacramento, CA. I was a computer programmer for 20 years and now I work as an equipment operator at a golf course (cubicle life sucks). Married, two kids, two cats, two dogs. I've got several tractors and spend a lot of time messing with them (either using or fixing, depending on which one). I also have an old Chevy pickup that I play with.

I bought my GS500E new in 1992. It was my first bike and I'd been letting it sit around for a while until I wondered exactly why I was doing that. I've started riding it again a fair amount and so...now I'm in to bikes again ;). Great board, already gleaned quite a bit of information off it.

See all y'all around...Chris

My name's Heather. Been a member here since 03 but just now getting around to doing this. I live in the beautiful mountains of NC. My 1995 GS I currently own is my 3rd bike, previous 2 were :1)  94 GS500 and 2)  04 Honda Shadow.  Basically, had a GS got rid of it for a cruiser and after about 8 months had to get rid of that cruiser and found another GS.

Hey guys and gals.  I'm a GS wanna-be from Naperville, IL named Mark.  I don't have a bike yet but the plan is to get a GS500f next spring.  I've been feeling the itch to buy a bike this summer but it'd be too much of an uphill climb right now.  I park cars for a living right now but do some illustration on the side (hopefully I'll do that full-time in the future).  Glad I finally got registered here because I have a ton of questions.

pandy

Welcome!  :thumb:

Start asking your questions, and start saving your pennies for the MSF and gear...oh yeah, and the bike, too!  :icon_mrgreen:

Thanks for the welcome, Pandy.  My fiancee and I are actually scheduled to take the MSF course the first week of July.  That's really what makes it difficult to NOT buy a bike this year.  Originally our course was scheduled for October so I didn't have a problem waiting until spring.  But now that getting my license is so close (God willing) I'm really getting the itch to ride.  Still, I'm gonna try to make the best of it and just buy all my gear between now and the spring so I can just buy and ride.  As for asking questions should I just start a new thread in the general topic section?

pandy

Absolutely! Start a new thread in General...introduce yourself again (c&p is our friend ), and start asking. That's VERY cool that you and your gf are going to learn to ride together. My sweetheart and I took the MSF and shared our first GS500E together!  :icon_mrgreen:

Hello to everyone.  My name is Malcolm and I just bought a ’05 for my wife.  I’ve been riding for 30+ years (ya, I’m an old fart) and currently ride a ’00 BMW K1200LT.  My wife, Denise, has been bugging me to ride for years and I finally gave in.  I sent her to the Basic Riders Course for her birthday and then found a great deal on a slightly banged up but good running GS.  She is loving it so far.
This is a great site, with loads of info.  I got all the basic maintenance done, now we just need some dry weather to get some riding in.

I'm Tony from the the greater Triad region of NC. I'm a mechanical engineer, computer programmer, and web developer. I'm 30 (going on 16) and a complete motorcycle n00b. I've ridden on 'em before, but up until the weekend before last--when I took the MSF course--I had never driven a motorcycle before. I bought a used '06 GS500F last Friday and have put nearly 1000 miles on it already. So much fun!

I've already lubed the chain and replaced a burnt out speedometer bulb. Now the speedometer is brighter than the tach, so I get to pull the cluster again! YAY!

I'm not comfortable driving my bike through turns very fast yet. As a rule of thumb, I usually take turns 10-15mph slower than I would in my car. Even though I know my bike should be able to totally embarrass my car in the twisties. I don't want to become road pizza yet...Gotta keep building experience!

Kudos to you Pyro for having the wisdom to recognize and stay within your comfort zone (going slower in turns - make sure your accelerating out of the turn  :thumb: , as you know you should be slowly rolling on throttle all the way through the turn  :) ).

Welcome all!

Malcolm - How old is your wife?  I'm curious because my wife once asked me to teach her how to ride.

Scratch, She's 48 and been riding with me for 30+.  She used to joke about riding herself, but after getting the BMW and going to a few rallies, meeting other women who ride, she got the bug.  I was resistant at first but finally relented.
I highly recommend the basic riders course put on by the motorcycle safety foundation http://www.msf-usa.org/.  They provide some 250's for them to use for the 2 or 3 day class.  It's good to have the pro's teach the basics and you don't have the frustration of teaching a newbee who is also your wife.  She passed the course, got her license and now I'm working with her a bit more in parking lot.  Hopefully we will take our first road trip this weekend.
