I did....

The first time was just a fluke. Was heading back from Phoenix, figured I'd stop halfway, but the ride was so much fun I kept going til I got home. The second trip was planned for a Saddle Sore so I documented it.  Been there, done that, got the license plate bracket.

Hi

My name is mark and i am from san diego. I recently aquired my first bike an 89 gs500 for 250 bucks. It runs and thats pretty much all i can say. I am not a new rider but have been riding street bike, dirt bikes etc... for a long while. Well the street bikes wasn't technically legal but i think im finally going to take the damn dmv exam. My bike isn't in great shape but it runs...that pretty much sums up the gs. I plan on doing the whole street fighter bike, my buddy has a crashes gixxer 750 than I am taking the from end from and i fell in love with the beull x1 rear subframe on a few other posts. So im going to do that but fab up some crazy tail section from fiberglass (the glass section is more for looks than everyday riding). Oh i also plan on the bandit 1200 swing arm and the 750 shock. Should be fun, Im selling my 408hp turbo eclipse for some extra cash...to many vehicles around.

Well thats my into i hope that explains me and my situation...oh and im 6'4" 266, a student majoring in microboilogy and molecular cell genetics i surf lift weights and like long walks on the beach...hahaha a lil' humor. Ok well thats a complete into! Im happy to be a part of this tight nit gs community you all seem to really help each other out.

I'm Mike from the big city of Waco Texas - birthplace of Dr Pepper, 10 miles from the Western White House and yes, the Branch Davidians... I'm 44 years old, own 4 bikes: 79 Goldwing, 84 Magna 700, 86 Magna 1100 and a 92 GS500E.  Got the GS for free if I could get it running and after rebuilding the carbs it is.  Its purple with pink stripes, think I'll keep it that way just to be odd.

I'll be using the GS and the small Magna for in town stuff and local trips, the big Magna and Goldwing are for long distance runs.  I put alot of miles on all the bikes, prefer riding to driving. And I LOVE long distance trips. So far I've done 2 trips where I covered over 1000 miles in under 24 hours. Something about riding that clears my mind, I addicted.

Thanks for listening...

I'm Dan from San Angelo, TX. Some people think of it as a small town in the middle of nowhere (we're nearby smaller towns and near Abilene). I've been riding since Aug this year and I got the 2007 year model of the GS500f - blue and white.  The bike has been treating me good and can't complain because I've been learning alot of this thing compared to my friend who bought a GSX-R600 (he's a beginner and only had 2 weeks of riding prior to him buying that but that's another story).

Mods I've done on my bike : Flush Mount Front Signals, Integrated Rear Break Turn Signals, R&G Frame Sliders and Bar End Protector, and Lowering Links (I'm short )

There's another GS500f parked 2 space from my bike. I don't think the rider rides it that much since it's getting cold. I'm going to ride it in the cold since gas price is going up and the only thing to keep me from the cold is to layer up on my clothes.  :thumb:

From the Valley in L.A. County originally and over on the west side of L.A. now (think beach) in SoCal. Rode horses for 30 years which helps with bikes and motos, it's a similar dance of balance and one-ness. Started on an "Enduro", rode friends'  Yamaha 360 and a Honda 350 street bike. Rode a Honda CR 125 Elsinore in the dirt in the desert a few times, and a smaller bike. Finally got my own hand me down Honda Hawk 400 for 2-3 years, didn't ride a ton because I had a mini truck which was way cool then, but rode it around town. When I took the test I was the only girl with all guys, and outrode maybe all but 3 of about 15 guys on the circles, figure 8s, pylons, stop. It was pretty basic then, and I give all the credit to the Hawk! Probably I had practiced low speed stuff more too. Hubby had an '82 Silverwing which was a 500 back then, and after my Hawk was sold for lack of storage, I would ride his bike out to see my horse. Fwy traffic was so light then! We divorced and I just dreamed about motos, had too much other stuff going on and no biking buddies.

So 20 years go by and I get a '93 Yamaha XT225 dual sport (enduro) for my birthday, I think I cried I was so happy! That was my best teacher getting back into motos. Really set me up for this one= extremely cold blooded, leeeean carburetion, but bomb proof and nimble. It has the standard riding position I grew up with too. It also likes to be revved in first when cold or will stall, but once it's warm can lug all day. Lots of torque for a little bike, great hill climber, I may miss that. Has a good reputation too. I got some finesse back and more confidence with it. Outgrew it a year ago. Being 50 and beat up from horses (jumpers, dressage, accidents) I believe in being careful and not getting way more bike than one can handle. Or if you do, be aware that it can get you into trouble real fast, and learn how to get yourself out before you come to that!

Had the GS 5 days, and I am crazy about it! Off to rework the fender now.
(I'm back, with hubby's help it's done, looks MUCH better, thanks to my excellent dremel work.)
2001~ OEM Flyscreen & Chin spoiler, Fenderectomy, Sonic Springs, '05 Katana 600 Shock, Yoshimura RS-3 Carbon Fiber can, stainless midpipe, custom brake pedal, K&N Lunch box, Rejet, 14t sprocket, Diamond links, Iridium plugs, Metzeler Lasertecs, Hella horn, "CF" levers, Chuck's Fork brace. I'm broke!

Guess its my turn now  :icon_lol:

Name is Lasse.
Im 27 from Denmark, and just about to get my license and my first bike (please do send positive thoughts my way wednesday morning lol )
Been wanting a bike for years but just never got around to getting that license, or the cash for it. Just woke up one morning thinkin; now is the time.
Looking for a bike just kept leading me to the gs, with its looks, not to mention the affordable prices.
Then i found a horrible fact! Danish riders apparently only like to discuss riding and their bikes if they got a hd or a goldwing :(
That means you guys is pretty much all i got, and you will probably suffer from all the noob questions i got :P

Greetings!  I'm a new owner, bought a 2001 GS500 from a college student in my area (California central coast) just over a week ago.  It's my first bike, I've had my license for a few years though (took the MSF class but couldn't afford a bike at the time).  I'll definitely be replacing the front fork springs on it, the stock springs are quite soft.  Previous owner has a Vance & Hines pipe he's selling separately, but the bike has the stock jets in it...I'm still trying to decide if I want to take on carb work this soon after starting out.

If anyone sees a blue GS500 being ridden by a guy in an oh-my-god-my-eyes-are-bleeding neon yellow jacket, that may be me :)
