Spring is here yea

jacob_ns

Hi everyone. I'm a 28 year old from Nova Scotia, employed in the military keeping this old girl flying, which is a feat in itself.

I just bought my first bike, a 1994 GS500E with just over 20,000 kms. I have no real desire for a go-fast machine and was driven to a bike simply by economics so I expect to keep this bike for many years to come. My intentions are to keep her running smooth through the summer and once she's off the road for the winter, tear her down and rebuild her from the frame up.

This is the only decent picture I have since the bike is in my basement awaiting my licencing and motorcycle course. I'm doing the standard oil change, plugs and cleaning dance for now and I think I need to rebuild the front forks because it's very, very soft.

1994 GS500E w/ ~43,000 kms as of July 2012

Damn that's a big rear sprocket.  Is it set up for wheelies?
I was thinking that same thing .

I didn't even get to take the thing for a wheelie yet, waiting on my new rear Battleax BT45 tire. Then we'll see how effective the sprocket swap was.

Welcome to the group...looks like a nice bike, with just a few scratches...nothing serious...doesn't look like it has been tampered with at all, still has the full rear fender...  :thumb:

Later.

Many thanks.
My most endearing memory of picking the Suzuki up is........
After chatting for 20 mins, after train ......wondering where the ferrrrrr.....i am....bus.......
waiting......

Sat on at last........

Owner of shop and mechanic, knowing i have 130 miles to go...Looking at each other....me....and saying....
" Your going be freezing"......

Yep...I was soo cold, but, only did I stop for  directions, bar of choc, and slash. :woohoo:

But boy did my nuttzzzzzz hurt.

My other half and I have been using daily......

In rain, wind and sun, early, late.

Haven't ridden properly for years, since  we had KH400, back.....
Had a few go's...but nothing owned.

One of reasons to aquire new ride, included Deb being aflicted by a series of events with her Horse. One being a complete ass on scrambler intimitading Deb and Chalkie, whilst out on hack.
While Chalkie bolted with, what can only be described as a pace that would throw even Skywalkers ass against the wall,
Deb stayed on....for over a mile.... country road, imposing ditches, two way traffic, full gallop,:flipoff:

Few things we'd like to  get done, soon....Clutch...slipping.
Frame needs painting.
Gotta do some quick carbon fibre bitzz....
Does need tidying.

In all, feels like being born again. :thumb:

Hey guys. I've been lurking GS Twins for a few months now. Thought I'd just sign up and say wassup  :)

The name's Allen. I live up in Seattle, WA. I am an extremely poor high school student that is using my bike as my high school senior project. This bike will let me graduate from high school! How cool is that?

No, I don't have a GS500. I actually have the older version of your bikes; 1980 Suzuki GS450L. Been doing some race bike conversion thingy on it. I won't post pictures (unless you want me to) since it's not done yet.

Yeah, that's gotta be the crappiest intro ever

I hope I enjoy my time here!

If I could have got course credit for tinkering with engines, my first car would have seen me gradute from university with honours.  I rarely showed up to class, often because I was pulling it apart, or stranded somewhere when I got it wrong.

madjak30

Yeah, you and me both...I used to skip Chemistry 12 to work on my car (it had to be running by grad, I was moving 800kms away)...the problem was the ChemLab was directly above the lot for the autoshop...oops...my chem instructor even wrote in my yearbook "Hope you make a better mechanic than a chemistry student"... :icon_twisted:

Welcome to the group...

Later.
I have already started a build thread on some other forum. Here you go!
http://www.thegsresources.com/_forum/showthread.php?t=160493

Yeah... It's a really long read. So to speed things up...

It started out as this.

Became a nice stock bike.

And this where I'm at now.

Want more pictures but don't feel like reading through the whole 90 pages of the build? Then check out my video  :)

Yeah, I pretty well documented the build. But it's not done yet!

Sorry! I posted pictures of a bike that's not a GS500!

Hey, gang. Old GS rider (1980 450-S) looking to pick up a new bike for the stable but I have a dilemma. Presently my rides are a 2006 Honda ST 1300, a 2009 KLR 650 and a 2009 Kawasaki Super Sherpa. I'm looking for a smaller or middle weight runabout for day trips, club rides and to just play with when I don't want to haul out the heavy iron or don't want to play on the fire roads. I'm down to the GS500F and the Ninja 500,  can buy either new for the same price. Researching these rides seems to indicate the Zuk would be more forgiving on my spaghetti for knees, but that the Kwaker requires less maintenance. And I rarely do maintenance. I ride primarily in Western North Carolina (2 wheeled Nirvana) and in west central Florida (Flatistan).

Any ideas from the gallery?   Thanks.

I'm 49 living in Arlington, VA (originally from the Detroit, MI area).  Just got my first bike (blue 2004 GS500F with only 2200 miles) in Dec after taking the MSF course.  I'm loving it.

The MSF course was fun.  First day was actually pretty nice for Dec (mostly sunny and in the mid 40s). The second day the weather report was for some rain with a chance of freezing rain.  The instructors said we're riding if it rains, but if there's any icing, forget it .  When we got there bright and early the next day, the skies looked threatening, but no rain. Cool.  We were able to get through about half the day's riding before the rain started - light at first but then more steadily as the day progressed.  By the end, people were pretty cold and long ready to be finished with the course - great time to be tested right?  I thought it was kind of cool to be riding in the rain with instructors there to give you tips.  Now if I'm ever out in the rain, I'll know 'been there, done that' and won't freak.  In the end we all passed the course.  :)

Got the bike two days before Christmas - nice present for myself.  Have been picking up the gear as I go, just need pants and boots now.  Have been having a blast riding it all over the area. I've put on around 1000 miles so far.  I get a little nervous at 70 or so, but pretty comfortable with anything below that.  Probably shouldn't be going that fast anyways.  :D

I looked at a lot of bikes and info online, and talked to riders I know to try and figure out what bike to get as a newbie.  Some said get the horsepower you can handle it.  Others said you can get in trouble with too much HP.  In the end, I'm glad I got the 500.  A great size for learning and getting comfortable riding, without having to worry about getting in trouble with a touchy throttle and brakes.

Spring is here and can't wait to put on lots more miles.  Going to give her an oil change, change the plugs, tighten and lube the chain today.  Then some more riding.  Woohoo!

Well I just posted an introduction thread, but I am James or Vladimir, 24, from Issaquah Washington, and currently living in Issaquah Washington :icon_rolleyes:. Just moved back from a very short-lived move to Russia (didn't find the job I was planning on :-X, but when I came back I got to buy a bike so not all bad :icon_mrgreen:). Lived in Spokane (WA) for a while and would love to go back... but for the first time since graduating forever ago I am finally doing the career hunt, something I never did knowing I was going to Russia :cookoo:... so who knows where I will be in the near future.

Unfortunately I had a pretty good thing going before Russia, and naturally was not still available, so back at the weekend part of that good thing working at Papa John's 12 hours a week or so (though I always end up working more than scheduled), which all in all is not such a good thing, but could be worse I guess :dunno_black:.

Well, we're a bit biased on this forum (go figure).

From what I've heard, the kwaka will fold like a taco, sprout wings and fly directly into the sun if you look at it the wrong way.
