Hi,

I'm Jordan, 18, from near Leicester in England. A regular on BCF under the same username, but I figured that I should register here because undoubtably there is a wealth of knowledge on a specific forum.

I've got a 2004 GS500F. Bought it in pretty much mint condition. Pictured below is the bike next to my previous bike at the time, a CBR125. I had my full licence for around 6 months before finally getting on my GS500F.

Since then the bike was involved in an accident which was my fault. I did a fair amount of damage, check the below pictures:

I crashed in to the side of a van at around 50-60mph I think. I was approaching a corner and locked up the brakes and skidded the bike in a straight line, a van was coming around the corner. The driver avoided me and I hit in to the side of the van rather than the front. There wasn't much damage to me. My gear protected me well. It hurt to walk for a few hours and then became so painful over the proceeding hours that I couldn't walk at all. By the next afternoon I was as good as ever.

I slowly rebuilt the bike over the next month having to replace a fair amount:
Front Forks
Front Wheel
Front Brake Rotor
Front Brake Pads
Front Tyre (BT45)
Handlebars
Right-Mirror
Front Brake Lever

I rode around for quite a while with the bike looking like this:

Now the bike currently looks like below, with the addition of mirrors:

I've had a fair amount of trouble with the bike over the time I've owned it (6 months):
Carbs needed cleaning out
Battery needed replacing
Charging system not working properly

The carbs and battery have been sorted. Though I fear that if the charging system isn't sorted soon the battery will need replacing again very soon. It may actually need replacing again already.

Both the stator and reg/rec have been replaced with 2nd hand units with no success. My plans for the near future are to:
Completely strip the bike down
Repaint the frame (parts are showing flaky paint and rust)
Go over the wiring loom to clean it up
Diagnose the charging problem

That's probably a long enough introduction post. :)

No mods, no fun stuff. Most I've done to Spewey since I got him was throw oil in it and replace the stator cause the old one blew up about 200ks into my trip home with him.

Picture below was taken shortly after I got him home. Try not to notice the swarm of bees, flies, mosquitoes, various bugs and maybe one galah on the front of the bike. We were hammering to get home.

I wouldn't necessarily be worried about all the bugs riding out in the bush like that...
Its drop bears that you need to worry about... they'll put you in a pine box...

GS500E 1993

39 year old Nondestructive testing tech. from North west minnesota. just got a 93, gs500e. a guy had it in his barn for the last 11 years and sold it to me for 250.00 bucks! need a little work but shouldn't be to bad. at least the motor turns over.

Dang, lots of youngsters out there. I'm 58 and started riding in 1965. Had to sell most of the toys when kids started arriving, but have enjoyed a great family [still do]. Rode most all makes; last road bike was a '67 Triumph Tiger flat tracker, converted back to street.  Harley wide glide is ok, didn't do much for me.  Recently acquired '89 GS [factory clip-ons] is probably the most responsive, dependable and fun to ride bike I've owned.  Would like to get a newer GS and tour with my wife if she could only give it a try. Graphic arts tech, ministry part time and sailing when it's too windy to ride.

My name is Michael, 23yo and from San Diego, CA.

I have a 2002 GS500e.

This is my first bike and I've had it since August. I've run into quite a few problems with the bike since the purchase but I still love her.
