Post in Want to Buy.
You might need a new perch to go with it if it is stripped. Remember to remove clutch switch before removing clutch lever. There's a video on that.

GS500e, or a slightly used BMW R100GS. Like any sensible novice, I opted for the 450+ pound, 1000cc enduro. A buddy of mine got a GS500e and I was always really liked his bike. I had the BMW for almost 80k miles, until the 1-2 selector fork failed catastrophically and took out everything but 5th gear. Sadly, the trans for the BMW was like $3k so I traded it for a '71 Triumph Tiger 650. Nice looker, but the electricals were archaic and unreliable. I sold that bike when the wife wouldn't get on the back (it was bored .060 out, high-comp pistons, nasty cams, straight pipes, etc. it was a damn sight louder than she could stand). Also, it felt like I'd have to spend hours on the leg-press machine building strength to kick it over haha. Later, I picked up an '84 CB125s as a gas-saver. Traded that for a '78 CB400t that is now a ratbike and my main ride. Got the GS500e as it's more versatile (and faster) and so I can mount a dirt hack to the CB400.

Happy to be among fellow GS500 fans, Cheers!

Woody

Hey guys, I am a 23 year old male just moved to florida (jupiter) 8 months ago and picked up my '05 Gs500 last thurs for my first bike  :woohoo:. love the bike and having a blast riding it. Can't wait to get some cash to put on some clip on bars.

On a side note I don't understand why multiple people have said I will out grow this bike and want to sell after a month...seems like a great beginner bike with lots of potential for customization and more than enough speed to keep me happy
