Welcome OzTurkish,
enjoy the bike.
(But mate don't waste your life doing a job you hate. Right now it might seem impossible to get something better but it's not, -you can find a way).

+1 to all of that! ... Including welcome!

Jobs may be tight... But there is always an opportunity for the dedicated looker!

You can run, but you'll only die tired.
If you hit it with a hammer and it doesn't fix it, you have an electrical problem

I posted in this thread a long time ago, but feel like doing it again...so...

My name is Dan and I live in Southern Indiana.  I'm an engineer at Cummins.  I used to contribute quite a bit around here up until '07.

I purchased my '05 GS when it was new and have obsessively cared for it ever since.  However, it has been sitting and hasn't ran since 2008.  I regularly changed out the fuel in the tank and kept things lubed, bike covered and garaged.  I'm bringing the bike back to life and thanking myself for keeping up with things.  Have done new fuel lines, rejetted carbs, changed oil, lubed cables, new battery, etc.

After a wash.  It hasn't seen sunlight in a long time!

I should post in here.
My Name is Gav, I'm a IT technician in brisbane, currently training for my entry into the army. I have had my GS for just over 2 years, I bought it at 20,000ks and its almost at 50k now, i take it to work almost every day unless its raining heavy then i take the car. I work at a shopping centre so your suppose to pay for parking but dont need to when you have a motor bike as you fit quite nicely past the boom gate ;)

I'm bav :) from somewhere in the middle of the US and I just got my bike less than 24 hours ago. It's a 2007 gs500f, and its my first ever bike! I paid $1400 which i thought was a good price.
It was my first time on the bike (any motorcycle for that matter) and I made a couple laps around the neighborhood. I stalled it a couple times on the driveway getting used it to, but none afterwards. Then I drop it going about 5 mphs and snapped off the right mirror , I feel bad for dropping it but it shouldn't be too bad to fix.
What kind of maintenance do you guys think it needs (was sitting for a couple months untouched at a towing company). Oil, tires, lube chain, brakes are worn, anything else?

here she is

Welcome, Just do the usual as you would a car. If you dont know the history then maybe replace the oil and filter straight away and check everything else before you venture out eg, chain play and sprocket wear.
Cant see the picture of the bike sorry

Hey guys my name is Benny. Just bought a 2004 gs500f from an ad on Craigslist about 2 weeks ago for $2300 and I couldn't be happier. I live in the city in NY and I know it's pretty late in the season but I couldn't wait until March to finally get riding. Was riding without plates for about a week then I finally get and leaving the DMV I dropped the bike on its right side :( but luckily there was just a small scratch on the exhaust the size of a nail.

If any of you guys are from NY let me know so we can enjoy the final days of the season. I'm interested in practicing my leaning while taking curves

Hey all,

New GS500F owner here. I finished the MSF course a week ago, got my M endorsement on my license, and purchased a 2004 GS500F a few days ago. It has been a blur but I am glad I'm (almost) ready to ride.

I live in Oklahoma USA so I hope I can still ride this winter if it stays mild.

No pics of the bike yet as it is currently disassembled. Let's just say the previous owner neglected certain parts so I'm learning it all from the onset.

Hi all my name is Dirk and i live in Holland (Europe). I have my 1990 project GS500 since 2010.
Every year i go to the Eiffel in Germany for some nice corners. And the GS loves it there just as much as I do :D
Here a picture of the GS of last summer (right now I'm in the middle of a engine swap.

You can find the whole story of the project at the project area of this forum.
