Eyeplaygolf

41 Year old father of 3 from Central PA.  Have always wanted a bike but it just never worked out.  A good friend of mine rides regularly on the weekends so I figured one of these days......  Well, that day was a week ago!  I was originally thinking about a 250 or 300, then a couple people said I would probably get bored quickly with a bike that small.  Went back to the internet to do some research and pretty quickly decided the GS500 was for me.  Went to look at a 2008 GS500F and the next thing I know my buddy was riding it home for me.  Got all my gear this week and have put 75 miles on it yesterday and today.  Love it! Very happy with the choice.

Cagey

Hey all. I Am Cagey. I'm a rider from South East Queensland in Australia.

Trying to do some work on my GS to make it a little bit more lovable.

I am interested in meeting more twin riders in my area. or even around the world.

FirstSputnik

Hello, my name is Ivan, I am 31-year old software developer from Atlanta. I was dreaming of motorcycle for a long time and finally I was able to get one. And here I am, proud owner of 2009 GS500F. All my experience is 2 days of MSF so I start slowly but I hope to commute sometime in future

gregjet

Cagey, where are you from? I am in Bundy. My GS is a project bike though and isn't on the road yet.

Ladies and Gentleman of this august group,

Jim here... long time lurker, getting on board as a participant. Benefited greatly from the info / humor / real life demonstrated by this group.

Old fart, still riding (66 years old), lotta miles under the too-big belt but still learning, hopefully. Retired electronic and mechanical QC Inspector, central New Hampster, looking to make most things better and cheaper if possible, LOVE forums and certainly want to contribute what I can to this group, and miss Adidasguy like you do.

Ex-AAMRR roadracing corner-worker (and USCRA, once, at Louden, NH), short-legged, gun-toter, refugee from the People's Republic of NY/NJ, aspiring bass/keyboard player, married to a commercial/fine artist (non-rider) and occasionally opinionated.

Currently have a red 1993 GS500E w/ 15k on the clock (running OK after I fix the rear tire flat I just got) and 1995 E parts bike. Love the 'basic' nature of the beast. A million years ago had a 1982 Suzie GS550 and a 1881 GS650 E. Smooth, but too many cylinders/carbs and too wide (actually, so am I). Looking forward to the NH winter only to work on bikes while not missing riding.

Also have a nice Yamaha SR500 single (LOVE singles, another iconic medium size bike, 13k) and a spare parts bike, a Yamaha SR250 project bike and a non-running Yamaha XS650 vertical TWIN for parts for the SR's (and trading).

Pics to follow soon. Certainly glad for this forum... :D

Antaresia

I'm finally here. 34, F, Canada.
2008 GS500

My first motorcycle, but I've been a dedicated cyclist for years now. I'm on the bicycle every day, usually have 50km ride weekends, the odd 90km weekend. I like fixing the bicycles myself, so I'm here to figure out what I can do with my motorcycle. It's used, dented & scuffed, has a few aftermarket parts (including an air horn, that was interesting surprise). Come to think of it, I have a bicycle that's more expensive than my motorcycle -_-

I got it because I'm interested in going farther moreso than faster, but we'll see.

Ruin it.

Sounds familiar. I have two bicycles that are more expensive than my motorcycle, one by about a 4:1 margin. And at least for my mountain bike, I wind up spending about as much as my GS500 cost each year on parts and upkeep. I do put a lot more miles on the bicycles. But they are far more reliable.

21M, originally from Charleston WV but currently residing in Morgantown (Go Mountaineers!). Senior Electrical Engineering student. Finally pulled the trigger on my childhood dream of owning a motorcycle and now have means to close a distant relationship with my Dad as I can join him on his Harley rides (even if I won't fit in with the group, per se).

Excited to be a part of the two wheeled world now and even more excited to see where this new hobby (growing obsession...) will take me.

Hey Guys,
Rafael here 30yr, all the way from Brazil, living in Seattle.

Made a huge mistake but I'm trying to put back together a 04 GS500F.

Corybaker92

Hello everyone,

Just found the forum. I'm 24 from the Central Valley of California. Just picked up a 2008 GS500F off of craigslist with 8,600 miles. All she needs is a set of tires and she's solid. Have been riding for a couple weeks now, mostly commuting to work but did make a run with two buddies to the local foothill casino, (they have suzuki 1000's), was a blast. Can't wait to start digging through the posts!

Cheers!

29, male, Vancouver Canada. Bought a 2007 gs500 last week as a project bike. Steep learning curve.

who.is.nickcasey

27 male from Sunshine Coast in Australia. Bought a 2009 GS a few months ago for a bit of fun and got my licence, and now ride it more than I drive my ute.

Will soon be getting turned into a scrambler/tracker style bike. Joined as I have been doing a lot of reading on the site over the past few months!

MackenzieBM

24 Year old living in East London, UK. Last year at college as a bike mechanic, been on and off various bikes since I got the licence at 18

Bought a rough GS500ET (1996), 37,000 miles for £450. Was a bitty tatty and for some reason it had on newer F carbs (01-06, I think) and ran like a pig, it idled at 4k regardless of the idle screw, didn't even sit in the air box correctly. Rather then fart arse about with the jetting I bought a set of used carbs from a 94' model. The bike was also crudely rigged without the frame mount petcock. Reading the forum I've seen the CRF250 petcock be used so I've ordered one of those as I want the option to turn the petrol tap ON/OFF.

Cheers,

Mackenzie

Didn't notice this thread when I first joined.

I'm 33, live in Central Florida, ride a 1981 gs450s with gs500f carbs and in future will have gs500 cylinders and pistons, cams, gs500 front forks/wheel/brake with gs850 triple tree, and the rear is still undecided between a machined gs500 wheel to make the sprockets line up, or a bandit 400 wheel which basically is a gs500 wheel only a sprocket location that fits the gs450

I've been riding dirtbikes since I was 14 but only occasionally on the street after my son was born 13 years ago. Recently I decided he was old enough to take with me so I taught him how to ride with me and am soon going to teach him how to ride solo on dirt bikes just like I did.

I'm studying programming languages at UCF to become an independent or small team software developer and am earning a BS degree in Information Technology (Bachelors of Science) but honestly my girlfriend thinks I'm a grand master at BS xD

Thanks a bunch for the welcome. Honestly I found the bike on craigslist and started doing some research since it was one of the few bikes that was in my very tight price range. As soon as I found this forum I was sold. I grew up working on small sailboats and found having an quality online community was incredibly beneficial and added to the experience. I really want to actually learn how to work on bikes so this community was kind of the nail in the coffin so to speak in making the final decision. Thanks again and see you around

Steamboat

Hello all, new to the group. I was given a 1989 GS500E as a gift. It needs a lot of work and parts. One good thing, it was stored inside for its life. I hope to reach out to people who know much more about these bikes than I do.....
