Hi Guys, Barrie from Norfolk in the UK, I have a dreadful hobby of buying motorbikes and getting them 100% mechanically sorted, then getting bored and selling them at a slight loss!
Did full restoration on a 82 BMW R65, then rebuilt engine on a Funduro 650, most recently sorted out a K75RT and realised it was a ridiculous bike (half a ton) for scratching round the local roads.
I've Had a lot of the old 4 cylinder GS Suzuki's which i loved and was looking for a 500 twin for what i want.
Awaiting delivery of a 2002 GS500 and aiming to put some miles in, instead of spannering.  Its got a very, very low mileage and from the condition of the bike and test history appears to be correct.  Time will tell!

Hi there! Tom from Poland here. Currently taking care of two GS500Fs. Those are lovely little rides, same production year, same colour, proper twins. From time to time have to deal with typical for GS500 issues... so, thought it might me worth sharing some experience with You. By taking this opportunity: Merry Christmass :)

Welcome!   Two of same bikes...I highly admire the decision process. I am guessing that a close friend rides alongside?

Not exactly, one is for daily use, the second will be equipped with higher windscreen and some other mods to make it more comfortable for longer rides. At least that's the plan :)

Hi, Mo here from Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.
After twenty years not riding I was looking for a cheap bike to see if I was still interested in riding...
It came down to a 1200 bandit and the GS I currently own. My first bike was a GS450S which I lovingly destroyed with youthful exuberance and ignorance so i guess that swayed the decision. The fact I nearly flipped the Bandit on the test ride might have played a part too...
Have put 25000 kilometers on the GS in the 16 months I've had it and enjoyed every one of them. So I still liking riding bikes !
Cheers

I'm Purple Mongoose from southwestern PA, and just got a 95 GS500E back in October. It's kind of a first-time project for me.

Been riding (street) for 30+ years.

In addition to the GS, I've also got a '15 FJR1300ES and an '09 WRX, both bought new.

2015 Yamaha FJR1300ES
1995 Suzuki GS500E
The point of the journey is not to arrive. Anything can happen.

Hi, I'm a roger. I live in Daventry, Northants Uk. Just put a second hand engine and fuel tank in my 1989 gs500 an going to try mot it this week. Not sure what to do with the old blown up engine or leaking fuel tank.
Are these bike ever going to be worth anything? I know it was fun to ride last summer before it blew up so I'd like to keep it long term.
Thanks for letting me join

Hi Roger and welcome to the forum.

With me being me I'd grab a couple of beers and pull the blown engine apart so I could have a chuckle at the broken bits then take the lot with the rusty tank to the metal scrappers for money to buy more beers. Or you could part out the engine on ebay, I'm sure there'd be someone wanting engine cases or the head but a complete broken engine might be a hard sell.
Being a UJM I don't think these bikes will increase in value over time like a rare Ducati will. Their low cost and easy maintainence are where the value is, for those new to motorbikes and old tinkerers alike. And they are bloody good fun to ride!

Cheers

Hi, I'm Christine, in Nova Scotia, Canada. I picked up a '93 GS500E late last summer and am just getting it road-worthy this year. I started riding four years ago, this is my second bike, the 636 Ninja I had ended up having undiagnosed issues and tore the motor apart. I've been riding my BF's 2013 CBR500R up until finding the Suzuki. This forum has been my go-to for finding out some of the quirks of this bike, everyone is so helpful here. Cheers!

Ok, I'm going to date myself here.
After 34 years without throwing a leg over 2 wheels I bought a 1989 pristine GS500E with 8000 miles last fall in Northern Kentucky.
In the late 1970s-early '80s I was GM and service manager for a couple small shops in Tucson, AZ. While there I didn't own a car most of the time but had several bikes.
We were involved in club racing at Phoenix International Raceway, Sears Point, and Ontario Motor Speedway in Ontario, CA. We were at the last Honda Ontario 6 hour in 1980 just before the tore the track down to build shopping centers.

There was a dispute whether Honda's Freddie Spencer or Kawasaki's Eddie Lawson won but it was a real treat and humbling to be on the same track with Lawson, Spencer, Wes Cooley, and David Aldana. By comparison we were just taking a Sunday ride.

Hello David here from Mississauga, Ontario.   i purchased the 2000 GS 500E last August and have put on about 6,000km.  It's a fun bike, i like the high revving engine sounds but i'm looking for a larger sized bike now because I'm 5'10 and 200lbs  Kickstand is saggy but other than that runs great at 48,000km!
