I own a 97 3000GT VR-4 as project car of mine that i eventually plan on using for autocross or street.  Stock my car comes with a V-6 .320hp produced by twin turbos TD04 9b's.
My goal is to install a larger set up turbos that can produce 450 to the wheels. Using TD04 15G's. But as of right now my thoughts are on modding my bike.  :icon_mrgreen:

Here is the current record holder for my car

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v5WkurWswg8   :o  1001 HP.  Keep in mind thats alot of HP for a car using a AWD drivetrain..

that 3k of yours, some of the twin turbos had broblems snapping driveshafts. nowaitaminute that was the AWD version. damned fun cars to drive though. me ive got an 88 rx7 vert ( 13b n/a) that has a severe fuel prob right now so it stays parked. a quarter tank of fuel to go 12 miles is NOT right :nono:

It wasn't so much driveshafts persay. They actually had issues with the Transfercase leaking oil past a seal, when completely drained would lock up the entire transmission.

This was due to a major Transmission company based out of Germany called Get-rag which makes about 85% of tranny's world wide. So Mitsubishi sub-contracted through them and
they realized that a design flaw had occured from Get-Rag. Then they issued a recall  instructing owners to bring their car back to dealership in which case it would be replaced and listed
as Non serviceable LOL. If they asked for a rebuild. They still never admitted to that today. Alot of cars today that (Are All wheel Drive) or 4x4's are made by Get-rag and could have simliar issues i.e VolvoXC90's .  As For your RX-7  rotaries are a completely different issue sigh... some people say there Bulletproof, others cruse at them for being a nightmare to work on.

Guess The Triangle concept is too complicated still LOL, Only really bad thing i've heard about RX7's is the seals have to be replaced after 60k usually.  :icon_confused:

I have an 87 Toyota Cressida as my DD. I wanted to do a few things to it like suspension, exhaust, and a few engine mods. Its been leaking oil at the cam towers and it has a blown steering rack so thats gotta get taken care of first. I also had an 80 Corolla Liftback that I used to slide around town in, but I sold that to get my GS.

Alot of people ditch the twin turbo setup for a much larger single turbo. that will be a lot cheaper in the long run and it form what ive been told, its easier to get big numbers out of that car with a single.

i played with my dads old protege5 before he sold it. put in an intake, slotted and drilled rotors with hawk pads and a short shifter. but then i realised how expensive and how much of a pain in the ass imports are to work on. now im only into my GS and my mustang. the volvo is just my daily driver.

i was hugely into subaru right out of highschool. had an old impreza, wrx motor, vf34 turbo, sti control arms and so many other parts, literally the only thing stock or not swapped from another car was the chassis/shell, dash and steering rack. it made 274 awhp untuned. ignore the big wing. it had 22 spherical bearings in the suspension and tracked like a dream

got my act together and sold it......to go to school

the person who bought it, destroyed it 2months later

Destroyed 2 months later WOW. The thing about Wrx's, STI's they have somewhat of a limitation factor on the engine block stock  :nono:. They are made from Aluminum instead of cast iron like most sports car engines. But this is due to the fact that they are " boxer" engines and require block strengthening for a large amount of HP.

As for me. I could upgrade to a large single turbo but that requires custom made piping. Usually a HUGE TURBO called a Garret i.e GT35R or a 42 which supports over 500 HP+
Only downside its not really meant for street or autocross b/c of the turbo lag created as the engine try's to produce enough exhuast gases to spin the turbo to meet with Engine rev's.

the guy who purchased it dragged it a lot, it started smoking even though i used amsoil and he destroyed the transmission and diff.

i was quite sad because i knew i put hours/days into that car. it was a part of me (literally, shed more flesh on that car than anything lol)

i wasnt huge on horsepower, i was more into autocross/rallycross. so my car was perfectly balanced for the job.  i remember being quicker than some modified wrx's back long ago when i had a del sol.
whats the expression? "drag racing is for fast cars, autocross is for fast drivers?" ...it doesnt have to be powerful to be fast

I used to have a extremely riced out focus body kit big wheels air ride.
Then took a dip in the dark side and ran it back to stock looks minus a lower lip, some euro spec hella headlights and 16" rotas. Also added turbo kit, suspension, break kit, to much to list.
Hit a curb one day avoiding a ahole in my lane and did 5K in damage, after it was fixed i sold her.... then marriage came and no toys returned until the gas prices got me my gs

plus running subarus, err teh turbos, to have them last, you gotta idle em for a lil bit, to build up oil pressue, and after a run/drive, idle to let oil go back out, and the turbos to cool. otherwise pricey things happen

oil pressure = let the car warm up..aka dont push it until its wam. i'm glad the turbo's subaru's use (unless swapped out) use coolant as well as oil. just let it idle for a while and the coolant will keep the turbo temp's down while the oil is primarily just used for lubricating the bearings/shaft
