aww, that sucks man.  id pat you on your back but your a little far.  anyways.  carefully look at your spending, write down everythign you have to spend per month, and then look at ways to reduce your monthly expenses.  hell in a year, put $25 a week back, and you have around 1 grand.
Youll get your ride in no time.  just be patient and careful with the mullah.

the wife and i are pretty good with the checkbook. the plan for the past 2 years had been to use income tax for a bike but something always came up. one year our bed broke so i bought a nice new bedroom set. this past year i had to save the money back for the purchase of our house. (new appliances etc.) as of right now, everything seems to be in order, no other large purchases deemed for the time being. so, once again, planning on a spring purchase. we'll see what happens though.  :icon_mrgreen:

I got my first bike about three days after I decided I wanted it...about 12 years ago.  I got my M endorsement in March.

I got my bike in jan.  Then got my endorsement right afterward in jan I think.  Damn man, I see u posting all the time. I thought u had a ride.  I guess your first will be a gs500 since u hang out here all the time right?

My 2001 GS500 was totalled Nov 4 2008
Now own 2003 SV1000 and love it!

Good things DO come to those who wait.  It took me a couple years between first major "want" and the GS.  But, like you, I had more important things that needed to be done.

You're doing the right thing, and the responsible thing.  Keep your eyes peeled and when the time is right you'll find the "right" one.   :thumb:

Well, the GS wasn't my first bike.  Perhaps if I'd had taken the MSF, I wouldn't have one!  Anyway, when it come right down to hardcore desire, it didn't take more than a few months.  Part of a tax return, all of my economic stimulus payment, money gathered from selling my home stereo, movies, and other electronics, etc.  Don't actually have my endorsement yet though, still operating on permit.

I will also add...  I didn't have a family to deter my determination.  Family would come first if that was what I was faced with.  :thumb:

If you try hard you can afford quite alot of things. Im 19 now and have owned and restored two bikes, my first 50cc Rieju (one of the first models ever) so fully restored that and sold it, now my ZXR400 which has been fully restored and im holding onto, I also have a car. I paid for everything minus a portion of investment in my first bike from my parents that they recieved back when i sold it. That includes the insurance each year, the license costs, the fuel, the driving lessons, any spare parts etc...

And where did i get the money? working several jobs at once as much as possible around full time education, anything for christmas or birthday from any releative went into what i needed to run/maintain/restore those things. Now im looking at getting my helicoptor license  :icon_razz: Well actually - i start on wednesday hehe.

i had 2 bikes before i ever got my license.

my buddy found a killer deal on an 81 honda cm400e for $500 on craigslist.
i got all jealous, and like a genious bought the next cheap bike that was up on craiglist. a $600 82 nighthawk 750 that didnt run and was beat to shaZam!.

OH I CAN FIX THIS NO PROBLEM. a week later i sold it on craigslist for $300. then found my GS500 for $1350.

rode that around with no license for like 6 months, went to the mva, took the test, and that was that.

craigslist is the best place to get a cheap bike, but for the love of GOD dont get over excited, and bring somebody who knows that they are diong before you buy anything.

I rode my bike to the last day of MSF. I had my permit before I had my bike. Bought my bike around the second (of 4) weekend MSF classes.

i bought my bike a couple weeks ago; my msf isnt for another month (RI requires you to take a motorcycle safety course before getting your permit) after 30 days probation (no tickets/accidents) license is issued.

in the mean time i'm not riding though, still waiting on a chain/sprocket to come in and to get shock, carbs and pipe installed.

my friends taught me how to ride earlier this summer and i decided (after selling some of my bicycles :p) to pick up a bike. I was looking at more expensive bikes, but a local was selling it due to his moving; so i scooped it up for 900 bux and had money leftover for gear.

My senior year in high school (2001) my father got a mid-life-crisis bike and despite their better judgment let me get my permit and ride it around for the summer.  I got the bug then.  Fortunately for myself I failed the riding test due to inexperience and the fact that I was riding a 1100 Suzuki Katana.  For the next few years I would look on and off at getting a bike but never made any serious efforts.  Last August, after I bought my first house I figured it would be now or never as I would be starting a family soon and I didn't think the wife would go for something like that if I we had a little one coming along.  Last August I picked up my first bike, a 1998 GS500.  I rode the bike a ton but just got my permit and  license this past July.  So start to finish just about 7 years.

After i took the msf course i spent another three weeks of riding the bus before i gave in to the dealership and walked with a fresh gs500 and a payment plan.

I knew I wanted a motorcycle after my best friends mom's boyfriend taught me and my best friend on his cb750k.  I was hooked from that moment on, i was 17.  Then 6 years later when the ex-wife was in the process of becoming that I went out and got me my GS500.  I didn't want to get one while i was in college and my wife forbid me from getting one while i was with her.  I got my bike about 2 weeks after i took my MSF course and got my class M.
