Who else needs case guards?

Another variation  (and, again, forgive my "artistry"):

With this one, fairing fitment is an unnecessary worry.  I draw like a drunk monkey (I was trying to do it 3D, somehow), but basically he just needs to bend the material correctly around the engine and tranny casing, leaving room for any bending that might occur in a catastrophic cow-to-motorcycle collision.
With good tubing and sufficient triangulation, there are at least 4 different ways these things can be configured.  If he's using bracketry instead (and depending on his machinist's weld quality), the sky's the limit.
Since he's the only one offering these things besides large-scale manufacturers, I say we support him in his efforts.
The alternatives: - buy set after set of the cheap two-point versions, and constantly check them for dilapidation.
                        - buy the higher priced aftermarket three-pointers, which don't fit under fairing
                        - buy steel toes, and protect the bike with your metacarpals (they're overrated, anyway)
                        - buy these from Buddha

The previous one will work better cos its better triangulated. You can make it stronger without making it too bulky.
But yea, close enough ... and yes, the point where the piece from the back piece meets the other part, you have the option of a frame slider there.
That piece to the rear is an also option ... You can get it, or get sliders or none of those.
However my design is not somehting we can hammer out with pipe and flat bar. I did that last time ... only works on 89-02. I have thickeners and gussets and braces in mind, many of which have to be hand cut and hand welded, but atleast the big pieces I want to mass produce. It has to be very strong but still be able to get under the fairing. Else ... like what is the use ...
Cool.

I was really hoping you would say "gussets".
They remind me of vaginas.

Are you gonna put your own little design on them, or just save the time?

The Buddha

What you mean my own design ???  :cookoo:

The vaginas are triangle or square - yeow a square one ... or in atleast 1 spot a section of angle section - and no I am yet to see one like this, even in ... ahem ... movies - steel cut into thin slices and welded on. They are used to add strength to a 90 bend, or stiffen a cantilever or provide a base for a bearing point.  :thumb:

Some details have to be ironed out after we get started. No sense doing a 1/2 ass job ... 90% of the work is making them ... I dont care about putting in a few extra bits of steel on and making it stiff enough for armageddon. Heck ... I'll put it on the nearest GS that happens to stray too close and then crash it ... just to test how the naughty place's hole up.  :icon_twisted:

Atleast 3-4 naughty place's will be in the thing.  :icon_twisted:

Anyway ... small details and how ugly it will be have to be worked out ... I am staying with "as ugly as any other case savers" still. The whole project has to get done.

And no I wont be moving on etc etc ... I just have to make it feasible. I have bars I am working on, and these can be done most of the time side by side ... I'd love to get them made, but really I have to have the numbers. 20 is not much at all guys ... but I cant do any less. Lucky for y'all I have bolts left over. BTW some people have already pinged me wanting bolts for frame sliders that you drill into the fairing. Evidently they already have drilled and some or other has happened. If I sell the bolts out, this project is DOA ... or I'd need 50 ... bolts only in boxes of 100 ... wait a sec, lemme check that. But anyway ...

Cool.

Are these bolt on?
Would the appearance look like a "sore thumb"?
Whats the finishing?

If they just screw on, I'd be interested

Frame sliders: how to attach those, bolt on somewhere, or needs mods?

Yes, yes and powdercoated black. Or I can do other colors if there is a batch of a few - 3-4 for common colors, and 30,000+ for ghey colors.

Then Yes to screw on ... or more like bolt on.

Sliders - forget that part without cutting fist sized holes in the fairing ... unless you get the case guards which of course will be made to take a slider.

base for a bearing point.
Yes, exactly.  Vaginas.

Your own design, you know, like this:

Or this:

Don't know what that's supposed to mean, probably some ghey fashion reference.

Bluesmudge

Ok,  I'm interested enough but I wouldn't want to buy for a month or two, not enough money right now. I'll hope it takes that long to find 20 interested. In the mean time I'll just not crash my bike  ;)

It will have atleast 10-15 naughty place's styled like in the 80's ... definetly ... must have. Think about it ... that is what holds the legs together aint it.
And no you may not ask what is the difference between an 80's naughty place and today's ... if you're not old enough to know that, I sure aint gonna tell you.
Cool.

Exactly!  Anatomy 101.  Why doesn't everybody know that?  Like the keystone in an archway.

I'm not huge on the 80's thing, personally, even though does help to absorb impact.  I like the minimalistic sleek versions; I find them slimming.  Let's face it, the little paunch on the case isn't very flattering.  And, with all the plastic on today's models.... the girl needs as much help as she can get.

wladziu

Let me talk you into making new dash panels next, Buddha.  Don't need those little plastic caps, I've found something that works just as well.
No need to make it too pretty, like shiny aluminum or whatever.  Just something that can mill easy.

Wish I had a CNC.  I'd be selling those things like hotcakes on here.

I'm interested, but I'm not sure if I will be able to get some extra cash to pay for them before early spring.

I guess we work on the case guards and when we hit the numbers we need, we go for it.

In the mean time I am working on bars ... watch for pics on it ... comming soon ... prolly tommorow.
