I changed the set-up on my carbs yet again, and went back to the 16 tooth front sprocket.  I wanted to see if going back to the stock needles would change my current performance.  The DJ needles are a little flakey in the 34mm carbs.

The set-up I used.
Stock needles shimmed up 1/8"
#20 pilot
#67.5 mid-main
#147.5 main
4 turns out mixture

I took it out and it is smooth, strong and quicker than it already was.  I took it on the "test track" and ran some high speed tests :o .  Fifth gear pulled to red-line at an indicated 119 MPH quickly.  Sixth gear usually would do no good here with the old carb set up  because it wouldn't pull much more.  I shift to sixth to see what happens and it keeps pulling convincingly at 125 and I figure there is no chance it will keep going; but it does, right past 130 and still going where there aren't numbers on the speedo. The tach was at 10,500 or so and it felt like there was more but this is when I began to realize I was on a public road doing a speed that could kill me or get me sent straight to jail.  I slowed down and went home.  I gotta dyno this bike, now I'm curious.

Dude that sounds out of control! That jetting sounds crazy too. I never saw anything on any board about useing 20 pilots, or switching the "mid-main. I am not sure what jet that even is. Maybe you could explain it to me...PLEASE PLEASE...

only 01 bikes have 3 jets, the prior bikes have 2 jets..

Our bikes have different jettings on them from u guys.

oh wait your probably runnning a K&N clamp on filter and a aftermarket pipe.

I am running stock air filter and stock pipe..

maybe i can rejet and then deal with other stuff.. If required drill a few new holes in the can to get more air flowing thru..

i can probably afford those jets soon enough if they arent too expensive.

If you order the parts I'll do it; howerver, I am in Mountain View now.  I also have UNI pod filters ($18.00 ea.) timing advancer (Bob Broussard is free) and a Vance & Hines SS full exhaust ($250-$300) on my bike.  I'm sure a Yosh pipe and K&N filter will give the same results.  I wouldn't try 130 MPH on stock suspention and tires though.  By the way, this only works with the 34mm Mikuni BSR carbs from 2001+.  The jets are cheap, around $20 for the set of 6.  I recommend getting at least the filters to go with it.  The timing advancer only effects lower RPM's, and I guess you can increase airflow by drilling holes in the exhaust can so top end will be helped out.

Pablo, your bike sounds like a prime cantidate.... 120 indicated stock.  That's where mine was, a little jetting and exhaust would probably give you the same results.

My thoughts exactly...hmmm.

yeah one question.. WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO GO FASTER THAN 120?

not flaming, but please think. IF your canyon carving at 120+ then maybe you guys should get some video and make money off that skill.. otherwise, DONT.. please.

If more top end in general is acheived, great, but i dont recall you commenting on that part... just the part above three digits..

My buddy died going 130 when a car misjudged his speed and pulled in front of him...

THINK.

The reason I did it was for running from the cops  :nana:  naw it was for the top end of the RPM range.  The higher top speed is a byproduct.  I was curious how much faster it was going to pull, and did not expect it to keep going past 125 let alone the 130 mark.  This is why I am curious about a dyno run with this set-up.  It hasn't been done with a modded 2001+ GS.  Don't worry I am not planning other runs up to that speed.  They pay for video of that? hmmm. j/k

Thanks for the concern  :thumb:

Well I have an 01 like you, I can get teh jets if they cost only 20 bucks I am in. i have my air mixture screws drilleld out (thanks to pkasso) so it should be a straight swap. I have a stock paper airfilter for the moment (put in about say 1200 miles ago), i can get a K&N clamp on if required. As for a can, Im thinking if I can get hold of one off a crashed bike or something. I will look around or i can get a cobra like you said but that will have to wait for a while or just drill holes in the stock can.. But i think the rejet would be of good calling at this moment. I have the ignition advancer and the upgraded shocks so im good that way. I need new tyres soon though.

Im going to see what cyclegear will ask for the jets..

It will be very rich with the paper filter and a stock exhaust.  The clamp on is a must.....don't forget the crank case filter.  It replaces the hose from the airbox to the valve cover.

okay I will get  the clamp on filter and then later on get an exhaust (i prefer a slip on to full system but we will see how much I can afford). Worse comes to worse i will drill some holes.

Where do I get the crank case filter.. and how much does it cost?  I assume you will be taking out the california emmision canister?

I will do some price quotes tommorow if the jets are cheap i will place order immediately. The clamp on I will get from that US diesel place.

The crank case filter is around $10.... if you are getting a slip on exhaust or drilling, order a 137.5 main jet, if it's a full exhaust get a 147.5.  Also with a slip-on or drilled exhaust the mid should be a 62.5 not 67.5

Full exhaust and clamp on or pod filters:
1/8" shimmed needle under the e-clip
#20 bleed type pilot
#67.5 mid-main small round slotted Mikuni
#147.5 main small round slotted Mikuni

clamp-on or pod filters only:
1/16" shimmed needle under the e-clip
#20 bleed type pilot
#62.5 mid-main
#137.5 main
