yeah i took the CB block out...

i will have to extend my frame~2 inches on the bottom end

and if i paid for another block it would probally be a RGV engine *evil
I didn't have the heart to tell you that if you used the current GS chainline your CB engine would not end up in the middle of the bike...even if it did fit inside the frame.

oh yeah?

looks to me like from the center of the GS block to the chain the is a 4" offset...

looks to be ~4 inches on the honda too

makenzie71

unlike modern bikes...which run up to and in excess of 180mm on the rear tire...old bikes have a pretty narrow offset on the output sprocket.

starshooter10

i know..

and im checking the sproket to center of engine..

i suppose i can also campare cain to center of tire?

but i think they are going to be the same also...

(runs to garage)

starshooter10

wel granted mesureing the center of tire to the rear sporket isnt the most accurate...

looks to be ~.5 inches

give +/- .25 for error...

i can live with mounting the engine a tad to one side.... (if it'll make the sprokets line up)

or since the CB has a wider set...

i could probally put a small spacer between the kush and the sprocket...

keep the engine and tire centered while keeping the chain happy...

and a tab bit mroe rotating mass wont bug me as the 750 CC block puts out MUCH more then the GS did

So you are going to "extend" your frame 2 inches? isnt that getting pretty close to the ground?

Here we go again eh  :D    Over the years lots of dreamers have been in here and said they are going to do this and that etc  :D I really have lost count of them. Turbos (come back Rangerbrown), underseat exhausts, fuel-injection and engine transplants are always favourites. Funny thing is despite all the talk that goes on at some stage (usually #1) reality takes a bite, the problems start, money needs to be spent and the people concerned find themselves out of their depth and mysteriously drop off the radar.

So yet again I find myself waiting with "baited breath" for a venture to come to fruition. Call me cynical but as both a Biker and a Professional Engineer, I really would like to see someone actually walk the walk as well as talk the talk........ for a change.

Starshooter??? when can I/we expect to be impressed?? Can I put a reminder in Outlook and ask you in say.......1 month for a progress update??

starshooter10

hehe sure give me a month chnces are i'll have a new bike or have it done by then...

and im not extending the frame DOWN im extending it tword the front wheel...

the honda engine is LONGER not TALLER

Oh ok.......so..... there is a chance its not going to happen after all then?

A new bike - will be cheaper.
Anyway extend the frame forwards, and it will prolly have the front wheel hit the exhaust pipes. Now the obvious solution to that, need I even say it, add ~10 degrees to the rake.
Not only will it be a 4 cyl, it will also be a chopper. Think of how much cooler it will be.

Sledge - you have seen pics of my GR motored GS haven't ya.
Its pending exhaust pipe and carbs but its all 100% in there. I had to cut the top T brace and make it bolt on, made new motor mounts etc but as a bike its all complete. Just externals need finishing.
Cool.

im not gonna add 2" to the bottom and have it extend the rake.. that would ruin the dynamics of it..

think more along the lines of an underbite...

yeah it's like that O_O

:nono: You did not have to cut the T brace. We popped the thing in in like 15 minutes :icon_lol:

Yea I had to. If I ever wanted to pull the valve cover without taking the motor out.
Now with the GS mounts it has a lot of room, the GR motor is shorter front to back and narrower side to side. However it needs mounts made and once the mounts have been welded in, the removal/reinstall will be much much harder.
Essentially GR motor is taller all the way around. Almost 1 inch taller on top and 1/2 inch taller at the case. Its is ~1/2 inch shorter front to back and ~1/4 inch or so narrower side to side, especially at the rear. It will fit in the GS engine bay a lot easier than a GS engine. Once you put the plates and motor mounts to grip it in place, it will be tight as hell to get it out. I have done washers in the back to space it in the mounts, bottom I used the stock GS mount and the front I re did. Rear top I had to weld in a ear on the stock one on the left I think if I recall.
Getting it out now will be a bit harder I think.

Yes, it was a real swap. Wera643 and I popped it in one day just to see how much trouble it would be.

Oh sweet!  A 650 in the GS?!  I really want to see pics.  Has it been ridden yet?  Is there a topic posted about this I didn't know about?!

Thanks,

Nick

No, the Buddha is being a sloth about putting this together :icon_lol: But I'm assuming its because of parts being scarce.
