My battery in my 2002 GS won't hold a charge.  Sucks that it only lasted
18 months.  I used the bike all year so it's not like I did not keep it charged.  Need info on a replacement.  Is there anything besides the stock Yuasa battery that will fit?  I don't mind rewiring if it means I can put in a maintenance free battery.

is it time to check the valves?

Search the topic on this site... there's plenty of advice if you look :)
Or go to Pablo's  http://pantablo500.tripod.com/ page.  You can get a nice, sealed battery from Wal-Mart that doesn't need water checks or a vent hose.  It's the ES12BS model.  You do have to tip the battery over on its side.  In my case, this caused some problems with proper battery cable length, but for most people this hasn't been the case :)  And if it is the case, remember what Srinath told me and don't go hooking up extension cables, get new ones made!

Just a suggestion....if you do go to WalMart, find the battery on a huge center-floor display (usually)...be sure the box is sealed.  OPEN it and be sure all the materials you need are in there.  Sometimes (shock shock) people, uhm, "borrow" parts then re-close the boxes.  Just double check.
