Ok folks. Its official.  This baby works.   06 Rear suspension. Go out and get em if you can.  Now i just need to tune it to my weight. Feels smoother when i make the bike go up and down.. not as jarring as the stock shock.. seems the rebound setting  is working great.

Modification to be done:

Grind the swing arm area.  Thats it. Everything else is bolt on.

On a side note: I went ahead and bough the collar that belongs to the R6 and the bolt. There is a 2mm freeplay. However when you tighten everything up no movement at all. I dont want to find out later that it does matter. Some else here said the collar fits in our linkage just fine..so  once i recieve those i will replace my gs collar and bolt.

I didnt go from the top at the air filter area. I didnt want to take my time and take off the gas tank. Specially after i just filled it with gas... So I went about taking off the rear wheel since i am going to need to grind the swing arm anyway. It fits in fine.

I took off the dog bone as well. This gave plenty of room.

As you can see below I used painters tape to make a square around the area where the coil hits the swingarm. This allowed me to pinpoint where i needed to really grind away.

Well done. I wish I had taken the wheel off. Not because of the ease but because the guys who put the new tyres on did not do up the rear nut tight!!!!  >:(

Bluesmudge

Bluehaze, you had a Katana or GSXR shock in there before right? However you only compare to the stock shock. Once you get this thing ridden let us know how it compares.

Bluehaze

Bluesmudge Sorry i cant compare with the GSXR . I didnt go through with the install.   I didnt like making my seat higher.... After the install with the GSXR, I was on my tip toe when sitting on the GS.  i think that suspension is great for taller people. I am only 5'10.

This 06 R6 suspension does not make the seat go up higher. No need to really compare.. i already feel the difference from stock to this.  When i push the bike up and down.. the rebound is not as harsh  as the old shock.  I think with proper suspension tuning, at least for my weight 170 (no gear), it will be worth the upgrade.

so all you had to do was grind that spot on the from....how do you think it will work with a lowering link?

no that will not work.

2006 Yamaha YZFR6V R6  is the one i have.

only 06 and 07. there are 2 to 3 previous post about this. I am 100% sure that the 06  r6 will work. that is what i have.  I am not quite sure with 07.  I believe the previous poster about this said 06-07.

So you won that auction on Ebay?! lol.  There have been tons lately and they are all selling.  I got one that had all the linkage included so that collar is in there as well.  Sure is a pretty piece of machine work though.  I can't wait to put mine in.  Thanks for the writeup and info.  As I have not installed mine I cannot say, but for the naysayers, this may be a damn good option.

I am not stupid enough to bid before I make sure that the stuff is going to work, that's why I asked here.

I believe the older style will work with a H block and give you an extra 1 inch height if you want that ...
1 inch extra shock height = ~2.5 higher seat ... maybe too much ...
of course I am yet to see either of these in person ... will work on it this weekend ...
Cool.

Wasn't meaning you, lol.  And that shock in that auction is incorrect.  Hope you didn't win that one.

Even though I bought the R6 shock a few weeks ago I still watch them and there is already a lack of them?1  I cannot attest to us GS'rs buying them up, but weeks ago there were up to 20 or so on the bay for $10-$20.  Now there are a few and they are starting at $$40-$60?!  Guess the summer parts spree is slowing down on the bay.

Mine is still sitting in my hobby room unfortunately.  Been traveling the last month for work. But it will go in soon.  On a side note, I took my wife for a long ride yesterday and the stock shock (17 years old) is still going strong.  It never bottomed out or rode rough?!  I am beginning to think that the stock shock isn't that bad.  But,.....I sure as hell am going to put the R6 in.
