The preload collar, see if you can adjust it in the 1-2-3 positions by hand. No spanner tool, no vice, just grip it and turn it.
Cos on mine I could.
BTW the other important thing people want, is an extra 1-2 inch ride height, I'd almost say a shock the same ride height as the flaccid old one you're getitng out is near about useless.Having said that, I still intend to try mine retrofitted with extra preload, 1/4 inch spacer dropped under the retaining ring, in my GR. If it works, I'd be so thrilled. BTW its got good fluid adjustability range. Again my shock is twin eyelet, not 1 eyelet and 1 clevise.
Cool.

In reference to the "bold, italic, underlined words above"

I am trying to figure out why you think the R6 six shock at the same ride height is not any better than the floppy stock shock????  Is this what you meant or were you trying to say the R6 shock at stock ride height is better than the stock shock with 1-2 added ride height.  If only someone taught you proper communication skills your great wealth of knowledge would be useful!  HAHAHAHHAHA!  You can be so much help, but I need a Buddha decoder ring sometimes.
Ride it like you stole it.  But, then fix it right.

76mm.
does it mean it won't fit??

Well my eyeballs suck.  Checked it with a real measuring tool this weekend and got 76mm on the red shock coils.

I know this thread is a little old but if there are any of you out there that have the red, yellow or silver R6 rear shock would you be able to tell me if there is a functional difference or is it *just* the color of the spring?  Im ready to get one and I know I need the clevice style but short of that when I look around on ebay I see yellow, silver and red ones...they *appear* to be identical aside from the spring color (and on the 08 and newer ones the resivoir is smaller) but short of that they look exactly the same...so I dont know if different colors meant different spring rates, or it was  done to match paint schemes on the bike, or what Yamaha was doing?  But I was hoping if any of you guys who are actually USING any of these various colors to chime in if you could :)  It will expedite my purchase.  Much appreciated!

I have no idea what the color does. I am the OP of this thread and my shock is yellow which actually matches my bike nicely :)
It may be what you said - color matching to a bike or different spring rate.
Anyways, whichever you get it will still be better than a stock shock which bounces like an old couch :) So hesitate no more and if you have a good deal just get one.

good luck

I know this is an old post but before I bought this R6 SHOCK I wanted to confirm if I have the right one that would fit on my '08 GS500F without removing any parts above the shock and the rear wheel.

I can't see the pic on my phone. However, as long as it is an R6R and not an R6S shock (it has to have the clevis like in the OP), it should fit. I don't think color matters. Mine is silver, and it fit with no mods.
