Can you tell me if it does??

All I know about it is this: "REAR SHOCK OFF A 2007/06 YAMAHA R6 (SHORT EX)-WILL ALSO FIT THE 08-09"

what does short-ex mean??

here's pic

thanks a lot

That means it's the SHORT EXHAUST.

AKA 3rd generation R6 bikes
AKA R6r

Be careful!!!!   There are TWO versions of the R6 in those years.  I've got an '07 R6s which is the second generation.  I THINK what I've read about the R6 shock on here is about the 3rd gen.

If the one you are buying looks like that, it should fit. Reason being that there is a bolt clevis at the top of the shock which is removable. (I believe that is the 3rd gen type.) The more I ride with mine, the more I really believe it is a good fit. Just feels really good for a fat guy.  :D

thanks guys. I purchased the shock! I hope it will fit my GS well.
Can't wait to put it in!

so I got my shock today.
....and it's... yellow... I don't care about the color, but I need your expertise on whether it is the same thing as the red one?
I heard the stories that yellow is softer than red or something...

I compared the pictures of the red one with mine and visually they look the same, but if you know otherwise please don't hesitate to let me know.

thanks very much

The Buddha

The twin eyelet version - generation of the R6 before the one this shock came from came with a red spring shock. That spring is garbage. The standard mod is to put the yellow spring form the next version in that. Its well ... a smaller mass of garbage.

Unless I open a R6 shock sometime I am going to call them all as marginal.

That is lovely ... cos I have 3 of the bloody things and all I managed to do was adjust the red one (twin eyelet) by hand ... oh yea, in positions 1-3 the collar will turn by hand. The 1-2 positions its loose ... it will rattle if you shake it.

Sorry, one type of yellow is an upgrade for one type of red, that's all I can say.

Cool.

call me retarded but I did not understand much of what you said Sr...th.
I know you speak ironically often and I am unable to distinguish irony from fact from joke this time.  :dunno_white:

in simple words please:
1. is it going to fit?
2. is it better shock than stock?

thanks

I am not sure either what he just said.

However an R6 06 shock is no where near garbage if that is what i think he is saying.  Stock does not compare to this at all. I have the red.

2. I think he is saying the yellow is supposed to be an upgrade to the red.. in which case pop that baby on and call it a day. You wont regret it in any way.

Yep. I was the first guinea pig to try this and mine was Silver of all colors. ???? Anyway, fitting that shock is easy. I had my wheel off and all the rear brake assembly. At first I thought the brake torque bar ? was allowing the swingarm to drop further but it was more probably the fact that I had the wheel off. That seemed to let me install the shock easier than others have experienced. I don't know that the spring diameters are much different so not sure about tensile strength of the spring.

However, if you want to simply try it, remove the stock one, install the R6 shock. Ride it. There is a minor point where the swing arm touches the last coil but on mine, I have not ground that down just yet and I don't think it will make any problems. Just ride it. I believe you will tell a difference immediately but in all honesty, I didn't have a chance to ride with a stock shock.

Since I have installed .95kg Sonic front springs and added this, my bike rides very well.

So what is the height difference in the rear or sitting position between the R6 and stcok shock?

The Buddha

The spring on the R6 shock that has twin eyelet - maybe 06-07 not sure the year ... the spring was red, and the collar can be turned by hand in 1-2-3. I was going to use it im my GR which has the twin eyelet shock ... but looks like I prolly will end up with a limp GR ... Maybe yellow spring will help and it came with a yellow spring. No idea, I am still making a tool to press em open.

None that I can tell.

guys, thanks for replies. I did not have any time to play with the shock (Advanced C++ programming exam...)
but I looked some more at it and it looks like I got 2008 version. It explains why it's yellow.
I don't have any actual pics yet, but below is exactly the same one.
What do you think?

Very Nice! it looks like the reservoir has more clearance the 06-07 ones. I say it should work. To be sure, remoev the top stud as you won't need that. Measure the holes from center to center with a metric ruler. If it's around 290mm, you should be fine. The spring looks about the same maybe slightly thicker? That really looks completely satisfying!

For those who are interested:

The red R6 shock (07) fits without grinding the swingarm but you do need some muscle to get it in. The bolt holes don't like up exactly, but you can move it and manipulate and swear a bunch and it fits.
It doesn't fit if you're trying to use shorter dogbones to raise the rear. You'd need to grind the swingarm for that.

The preload collar, see if you can adjust it in the 1-2-3 positions by hand. No spanner tool, no vice, just grip it and turn it.
Cos on mine I could.
BTW the other important thing people want, is an extra 1-2 inch ride height, I'd almost say a shock the same ride height as the flaccid old one you're getitng out is near about useless.
Having said that, I still intend to try mine retrofitted with extra preload, 1/4 inch spacer dropped under the retaining ring, in my GR. If it works, I'd be so thrilled. BTW its got good fluid adjustability range. Again my shock is twin eyelet, not 1 eyelet and 1 clevise.
Cool.
