sputter

when i put the bike into first gear and ease off the clutch the bike sputters, it looses power untill about 4k then it is fine but i know the power that should be there isnt.... any ideas on what this could be actually it does it at any low rpm i have a d&d exhaust k&n lunch box and no idea what jets are on there any clue as to what i should do thanks any and all help would be great

Did you install the D&D + K&N or did the previous owner? If you did it the obvious problem is that you still have stock jets.

i would say its a carb issue and you need to find out what jets you have in it.  if your running that exhaust and that air filter you could melt a piston or valve or both.  pull your plugs and look at then tell us what color they are.  unless they are bright white then just tell buddha you need a jet kit for thats setup...lol

ok so i just pulled my plugs they are white where the element is for spark but a more black color twords the metal where it is threaded ? what is this about and if i need jets buddah can you tell me what they are so i can piclk them up at my local shop thanks

your running LEAN.  hence no power richen it up and youll be fine.

ok so how do i do this by taking the mixture needles out how many turns from full lock in ?

switched to 150 mains, runs so much better no sputter in 1st and other gears but i do feel that she is lacking some umph still any ideas

that sputter in 1st gear would be your idler jets, no ?

there are at least 2 threads (joke) discussing how to rejet a gs. and the wiki. give it a shot.


if you really want to liven up your off-the-line performance, drop a tooth on the front cog. you won't even care about the difference for top end unless you fly on the interstate for hours on end.... and that's just boooooring on a gs (or anything for that matter).
