Ill get right to the point  :icon_mrgreen:
I bought ProGrip GelTouch grips (fricken nice btw), and got the left grip on no problem.   :woohoo:
When I got around to the throttle side, and took off the stock grip, I noticed there is a ridge that does not allow a custom grip to be mounted.
The ridge on the throttle shown here:

This ridge ONLY fits to the stock grips, because the stock grips have a little indent that allows the ridge to fit inside the end of the grip.  :o
The stock grips indent shown here:

The problem is that any other grip to be mounted on the GS, would need an indent EXACTLY the same as the throttle ridge. Which is quite impossible.
SO, the only solution to this, would be to grind down the throttle ridge, or to cut an indent in the custom grips, which would not be fun.
Any suggestions?!  :dunno_white:

Just put the new grip on, and don't sweat the fact that a little bit of white plastic shows.

Been there done that, don't see what you're freaking out about.

yup a very small amount of white will show! take a black sharpie and it blends in perfectly!

Won't water or dirt getting in there negatively affect it? It can get right down into the throttle housing?

Don't think there's anything in there that would be bothered by some water or dirt.  It's a pretty loose plastic cam and the throttle cables.

I have ProGrips too and when I was installing them I did not notice anything that would make them not to fit  :dunno_white:
For me it was direct swap.
Just put them on and ride on!
cheers

I used a tiny little saw (in a leatherman) to cut off the extra part of the throttle so that my grips would fit. A dremel would be even easier.

I used a razor knife, and then a file to smooth it out.  worked great for me both times

Did you take the entire throttle assembly off before you did that?
Or did you leave it on the bars and file it down?
Just wondering  :thumb:

I left mine on the bike when I did it, but there is no reason you couldn't take it off if you think that would be easier.

Toogoofy317

Why do that? Is it a guy thing to just hack it off? I mean if us women just hacked off things we thought were useless would make a bad day for you gentlemen (see Annyugn's sig line)  I think just using some black paint or a sharpie would do just fine. Not like it's hurting anything and what if you wanna go back to stock grips or the next owner does?

Just me I guess.

I had to do it to mine because with my cruise control, it has to be close to the switch housing.   I did it with it off the bike, as I was also installing an sv650 throttle tube, new gel grips, and heated elements under the grips
