Just curious, how many of you have pistons that just dont work, or have wanted to get some bigger bores but just the unavailability of pistons have pushed the project aside. I'll be calling JE pistons on monday to see about a custom set of pistons being made.

Information from Bob Bourssard, Dgyver, ineedanap, and 5thAve (thanks guys) have pretty much narrowed the option down to a custom set, no matter what manufacturer you choose. The newer GPZ1100 wiseco kit is no longer drop in due to the raised piston profile; it interferes with the head. If i do manage to get a set made there would be a minimum order (4 pistons). I have no problems picking these up, but figure, while they are being made....if anyone else wants to get into a group order, it would be a good opportunity to grab a set of pistons if you ever wanted to.

I was thinking the standard 541cc - 78mm bore...unless you guys really want to knock in new sleeves and go for something larger. Doesn't matter to me.

just gathering potential interest, otherwise in on my own

I would be interested in knowing how much they would run.

O.C.D.

So at 541 does any bottom or top end work need to be done?  Or are these a drop in option?  I am limited on engine work and cannot do much more that swap pistons.

$400 is not that much I think.  Are the performance gains worth it though?  Are we aware of them as far as HP and Torque?

What else is needed?  New rods, cams, bearings, rings, etc........

If they seem favorable I would be in.

A wombat. It's got a big ugly a$$ too.

other work is up to you.

you can use stiffer valve springs ($35) and megacycle cams ($288), or keep it stock. don't have hp/tq numbers.

obviously need to get piston rings wrist pins and new head gasket; i'll post complete price after i get in touch with them. This is preliminary, just trying to get something together for my last project this winter.

Keep in mind, it's going to take a lot of money, and still wont be as fast as a lot of stock mid-sized bikes. But over the 487cc, and being the bike i'm keeping for a long time (that and having a spare motor to rebuild) it's worth the investment (to me).

Still have lots to learn from this bike, so i'm not giving it up for a long while. And i got it cheap enough for it not to be a lost cause.

AMEN! That is my biggest delimma. I can't decide if I should just keep the bike and grit my teeth on the financial stuff. Selling mine would not net that much for me in the long run and my bike is paid for. No loans, no debts on it, nadda. Geesh! i get too attached to my belongings.

Anyway, when you have some more pricing info, let us know. I am interested in this. Not sure about $400 for a couple of pistons although I know that is because of them being "one-offs."

Also, when I lived / worked in Arkansas, there was a piston manufacturer in New Madrid, MO. (Federal Mogul) not sure if they would be an option for this or not. I don't have any contacts there but might be worth checking into as they might be able to custom forge the pistons.

I would like to know as well.  Especially interested in the hp figure.  Unless someone can tell me a bigger engine that I can shoe-horn into this frame, that is!

I'd be something like shocked if there wasn't an off-the-shelf piston that could be used. I don't know what the compression distance and pin size is for the GS500, but JCC Piston makes some in the 78mm range. None of the Suzuki designs look like they'll fit, perhaps something for something else will:

A required 4 sets must be ordered. I am waiting on word for pricing of 78mm and 79mm configurations with rings and wrist pins

50% down would be required before production

I need an 80 mm with 20 pin, or an 81 ... someone said civic is about that size but flat top and very low installed height. Dunno. I need 2 valve pistons, not 4 valve.
BTW psyber I have the 78 or 79 not sure pistons of your dreams ... maybe 77 ... direct fit into GS ... muhahahaha haha haha ... GS +3 so 77 mm ... mu haha haha haha haha haha ... GR baby. Bored 3mm stroked 13 mm and can be crammed into a GS frame.
Cool.

Lots of aftermarket support for Civic. Do they sell a Civic piston with an unfinished top? Then you could fit it to the combustion chamber.

I have a complete front end from a katana including brakes and front wheel I would be willing to trade for such a mythical beast...I have a friend who makes custom exhausts local so that would not be a problem...
