Nice one Mad Dog... be prepared for increased fuel costs while you smile  ;)

Thanks Mister, was trying to find a CB900 as a result of your review but it was quite hard to find a nice clean example down here in Tas then I saw saw the hornet in a local showroom and just had to have it  :D

Ah, I do believe that was the last year for the CB600F. And you'll be pleased to know it's a retuned CBR600RR engine. So you'll have a tad over 100hp to play with.  :thumb:

Be sure to get yourself a RadGuard. I know it has that plastic thing already but I felt it wasn't quite enough. So far so good on my RadGuard.

Fitted a nice new personalised plate to the Bandit, just waiting for the other plate to arrive for the GS500, when it does I'll take pics side by side. :thumb:

I put some risers on my 2008 GS500F yesterday.  I like the more upright riding position.

Got the new engine in the bike and hooked all the electronics back up. Now all I have to do is rejet the carbs, double check the float heights, synchronize them, and get it all back together.

Took the 1 washer out from under each needle.  Trying to get it jetted correctly for the K&N drop-in with no restrictor.  132.5 seems to give the best top end power, but I get surging at full throttle from 5-7k rpm.  Hopefully leaning out the needle will help.  If that doesn't do it, it's back down to a 130 main.  If that doesn't make it nice and smooth all the way through the revs, then it's back to stock air filter 125/40/1 washer for me!

I've really got a system down for getting to my carbs.  Even with a full gas tank that had to be removed I got the whole job done in about 30 min.

You'll have to wait for photos to see what the plates say, nothing witty or intelligent, just my initials and year of birth.  was crook today, went out to get some meds and bugger the next set of plates arrived while I was out (registered mail).  now have to wait till the post office deadline expires before picking them up (will probably go early anyway).  pics to come.

oh and codajastal nailed it for where to buy and how much.  I just got plain simple plates at $445 each, they are my father's day present to me from me and the family.  bit of a rip when you think about it, for $445 you only get one small plate for a moto, yet if for a car you get two full size plates.

knowles

Nothing yet to put on ordered a newer rear brake master cylinder from pinwall, got a tank bra coming,  F mirrors, and bar end weights on there way also.

Erm... apologies, but this isnt something I did on my bike (but more on that at the end)

Today... I changed a lightbulb on my mazda cx-7

To do this, I ended up having to use 3 different screwdrivers, remove 8 different screws, turn the car wheel 5 different times, and invoke use of "grease monkey gorilla grip gloves".
http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?productId=202709681

Plus get engine grease on my forehead.

The good news is:
1. the gloves were a new purchase, and work GREAT. For $5, even.  So now I can stop tearing through disposable ones.
2. after going through all that for a LIGHTBULB.. I think I'll be a little more willing to tear into my bike for carb work, when and if that becomes due :D

(for the curious... it was a front indicator light. For which purposes, I had to all but remove the front mudguard in the wheelwell. UGH!)

ThatOtherGuy

all that for a light bulb, what a PITA.

okay what did I do for my bike today?

attached personalised plates to the second bike that arrived by registered mail and installed the Oxford panniers that I had ordered.  both can be seen in the photo.  just got to wait for new rego labels to complete the plate install.

Checked valve clearance.  Took me 10 minutes to figure out how to use the tool to lift up the cam.     I have done this on older GS'es, but this was a bit tricky.

Intake within spec, Exhaust was so tight not even .03mm feeler would fit.  Took out shim.  The size was 2.78mm.  Never seen that before.  Must have been from the factory.  Dropped in a 2.70, .04mm feeler gage fit, but still very tight.  Looks like it's 2.65mm for the win.
Bikeless and Broke at the moment...

Put in a new oil filter and some new oil, reinstalled the exhaust. Just waiting on the new jets to get here, everything else is done.

jestercinti

After going to dealer and swapping shims with new ones ($0 swap woo hoo). Put bike back together. Runs like a top.
