Today I took off my fairings and fixed a few cracks... still need to paint and polish them up but for now its about keeping them from cracking more.

The one on the top was a big crack that needed some love to really stick together...

I used a 15W Soldering Iron and a zip tie as filler and it came out pretty good very very strong... might wanna try a smaller zip tie next time as this one was a bit too much, I melted the plastic together and cut a V shape on each side then filled the V with zip tie filler... next step will probably be a rattle can paint job after much sanding and prep.

if anyone else is going to try this make sure you get enough heat into the fairing to melt the plastic and really get it mixed in there... i laid the zip tie onto the fairing and slowly swirled it to actually mix the plastic into the fairing made for a really strong joint then i smoothed it over.

does anyone know how to fix the bolt mount on the back side of the fairing other than just getting a new mount and welding it in? is there a way to buy just the mount?

Swapped Junior's belly pan from black (with accent striped) to red. Even though I have no real place to work right now, I have to be doing something. (That's Suzi with her rear carrier back there behind Junior)

Trey got fork reflectors and Raask rear sets (mixed feelings about the Raask) and Junior's old belly pan is sitting on top of a giant woofer that's destined for the land fill (the speakers, not the belly pan). I really do love the feel of the LSL levers on Junior and Trey. Suzi has ASV levers. Soon everyone will get to move into their new bike-cave of a home.

I gave her a new rear shock.

Shes happy, purrs like a happy kitty...

Wired up the dash lights, figured out that I moved the sensor for the headlight modulator accidentally and moved it back, and chopped the seat shorter for a more streetfighter look.

lets see today was a long one working on my baby, tore into the carbs and cleaned some gunk out of my pilot jet, wish i had a rejet kit on me and i would of thrown a 20 in there but meh, gunna wait for a lunchbox and a slip on exhaust or something.

pulled appart my tail and did a minor fenderectomy then decided i hated those tie downs on the back so i got the hacksaw out cut them off... once I get a little coin in my pocket I'm going to integrate the blinkers and saw the rest of that fender off.

Thanks! Header pipes were blackened with Rutland Stove Polish for cast iron (in the tube). centuryghost turned me on to that stuff. Just rub it on and polish. No need to remove the pipes. Sweet stuff! Touch up as necessary.

Quite like that bag on Suzi too  :thumb:

Adidasguy, what luggage racks are you using, and do they bolt straight on to a GS?

SW Motec carrier with universal top plate and a Bags Connection bag. Easily bolts right on. You do have to remove the passenger grab bar.
Bag can hold a helmet or a bag of groceries. The ends expand another couple inches if needed. Includes a shoulder strap. Holds on to carrier with straps, metal clips and velcro.

probably available from a variety of places. Check with twisted throttle.

So is it some sort of graphite based product you rub in? Sounds like I could use that on both my bikes.

Ouch!  Do you get a new tire or try patching?  That would scare me on a bike.

Its the factory original sold in the 90's. They show up once in a while for $100-$200 depending on whether it includes the original mounting hardware and condition. I've got a few of them so I swapped the black one for red (which is a 1989 white one I painted candy red to match). Sometimes originals are plain and come with 2 sets of stickers (red/silver and light/dark silver) that you apply. The black one that was on Junior already had the stickers applied. When the bike cave is finished I'll have some parts for sale to pay for it. I think I have a few black belly pans nested inside each other in storage. Won't know for sure until cave is done and things get unpacked. Gimbel has one available that is nearly identical to the factory original except you have to paint it yourself. They are not cheap. I had one and sold it to steezin_and_wheezin a couple months ago (it is in his postings if you want to see it).

For now, watch ebay. One shows up every 4 months or so and usually in black. Same holds true for headlight cowlings except in a variety of colors.

Junior with black belly pan and different tail & seat:

Holding on to this belly pan because I have seat and tail to match. I change the look every so often - makes me feel like I bought a new bike (because if I did buy a 4th one, some friends would do an "intervention" on me.)

Yep. This is the best stuff I have ever come across. No more pulling the pipes and sanding and painting. I touch them up about once every 3 weeks or so. It's made for cast iron stoves.

Put a new front tire (Michelin Pilot Road 2) on, and put a new chain and sprockets. PO overtightened the hell out of the sprocket nuts and I rounded the corners off two of them taking them off, so it looks like I'm going to a dealership tomorrow on my lunch break and getting new ones.

Well, today my $27 1981 GS450 rotor assembly came in from Vegas.  I stuck it on the bike only to find out my R/R was garbage, as I was suspecting.  Soooo I go to my Ninja 250 parts bike, and steal the R/R, hardwire it into my GS, and viola!  13.8 to 14.8 volts throughout the rev range!  Back on the road again  :D
