I don't even have turn signals, and didn't have mirrors for 6 months. Never an issue. Heck I have yet to even ride a bike with working signals, and that's 2 stock harleys, a modified harley, old gixxer 750, Triumph daytona, and 2 honda hawks!

Australia might be more strict on turn signals than the US, mustang. Here in VA it's legal to ride without turn signals and you're only required to have one mirror.
Bike: 1990 GS500E (Vance & Hines full system, K&N Lunchbox, BM Clubmaster bars, Katana rear shock, 0.90 Sonic Springs), 2000 ZRX1100 (Kerker slip-on)
Location: Virginia

Haha same here mustang, with my old cafe 750. Never had blinkers till my gs. People will get on you for not being safe and what not, but i say drive offensively and smart and you'll be fine. I think that's how being on a motorcycle is supposed to be. :thumb:
I am into buying bikes that people have given up on and fixing them up!

RIP Patrick Lajko, I miss you man.

But back to the topic!

I cleaned my bike and took it out and about and she got a compliment from this family. They liked her better than the gixxer next to it.

sorry .. minor thread jack... but it pertains to vehicle mods ...

theres no might!! .. they are ... they get pissy over any lighting mod ..

currently .. although many do it... no LED turn signals unless its factory or a factory option AND it meets the legal specs.... no HID conversions, again only HID if factory fit... no integrated tail/turn units, this is usually only 'caught' during hooning or other defect checks though .. thats for the standard vehicle fittings though... no 'mood' lighting, like led strips or glow/colours under bodywork edges or vehicle... thats just some of the lighting things .. no wheels bigger than 2 std sizes up or down from factory size.. no zorst mods more than 1.5" larger in diameter from standard (but so long as the dB rules are complied with this can be 'flexible' .. ?) ... no suspension height changes unless with 'approved' equipment......

oddly enough .. add on lights .. such as the hi intensity mini floods (like Adidasguy useson the forks) are ok .. so long as your standard light also work at same time.. because .. and this is funny kinda .. "aftermarket lighting may improve the visibility of the vehicle, as long as it does not impinge/effect other drivers vision" ..  :icon_rolleyes:

in the last several years .. a lot of hoons in cars and/or bikes have been caught with all kinds of mods.. usually after questionable behaviour and/or an accident.... so the relevant authorities .. spurred on by the fun nazis have bought in a whole raft of NO-NO's .. some of which only seem to apply to the hoon section at times. .... or really .. some Joe Q Publics may have similar mods but cos they dont get noticed they ... well... dont get noticed!!.

oh.. and just to make it fun to understand ... you CAN modify the hell out of your vehicle within a reasonably broad range .. IF you take it to a licensed vehicle safety ENGINEER .. pay them several hundred dollars for the relevant tests/certificates and then take all your paperwork to the licensing authority, have it noted in your vehicle profile... and carry all the engineers certificates and authority 'receipt' of same... with you in the car/vehicle at all times.

another minor example... one of my trucks and yeah its an old 1988 model (but still going strong) ... has some minor surface rust pitting/flaking along the chassis rails just behind the cab .. (dual c section rails too) ... the truck inspectors decided that it was likely to affect the structural integrity of the chassis ... they issued a notice... we took truck to mechanic/engineer ... they ....

and i thought this was funny too...

drilled the chassis steel with 6mm-1/4 inch holes in a regular pattern around the rust site, screwed large grease nipples into the holes... and used a air pressurised grease gun to force grease into the minor void between the c sections... wiped the excess off... the rust bits were no longer visible .. (although it does drip very occasionally as the grease breaks down) .. cleared the defect..... we took the paperwork to the truck inspectors.. they noted the engineers approval of 'suitable repairs' .. and we good to go... so long as the modification papers stay with vehicle...  :icon_rolleyes:

so there we have it... holes and grease nipples and grease .. can fix 'a structural integrity issue' .. so long as an engineer says so!!

Wouldn't crank.  Weak battery at 21*F.  Jumped it using my 4 cylinder, and off I went.

Looks like I will need to check the water level again.  Started fine Friday.  Hmmm....

Rode it to go apply for a new job. Really need to get a new muffler, this broken baffler jingle bells effect is getting old and embarrasing

Shimmed the needles tonight. Dropped the E clip back to the stock position and added a 0.020" shim to raise it half a notch again.

On the 450's, you can remove the slides without having to remove the carbs... which I find quite excellent  :thumb:

Ride to live; live to ride.

Got a pair of 89 clip ons dirt cheap. Need new bars before they go on sadly. Seller told me they weren't stock bars, but some aftermarket ones someone threw on. But uh....these look like stock 89's to me.

If god intended us to drink beer, he would have given us stomachs.

Bringing a 92 gs500e thats been sitting for a while back to life. Low miles (3800) and starts but flooded on the way home in the truck  :icon_sad: removed the carbs for a total cleaning and seal replacment. Maybe a head gasket to come.

Did more shimming of the needles tonight. Definitely more responsive and eager to from about half throttle up, but hesitant with a bit of a flat spot around the 1/4 throttle mark. So the real answer is going to be different needles and so I have measured mine up to compare with what's available, but in the meantime I've gone the 0.030" shim which makes it three quarters of a notch richer instead of half a notch.

I'm expecting that to re-introduce some of the bogging just off idle, so to attempt to compensate I've leaned out the mixture screws a quarter of a turn as well.

Riding home today mostly was at 1/4 throttle or thereabouts and the engine was definitely hotter than normal upon arrival home, so that's a good indication she was running a little lean at that point too...

Installed short eBay billet bar end weights to go with the DL650 handguards. Removed bar end mirrors and replaced with standard ones. Shaved 8 inches off the old width of my bars. Cold weather, warm(er) hands.

Went today to DG Custom Chrome to pick up my emblems I got 2 years ago at the Motorcycle show.  They turned out great!  The "S" emblems are laser cut out of plain steel and sold by weight.  I always wanted them chrome plated.  Turns out the best chrome plating shop in the midwest is 4 miles from my house.  The big "S" is about 7" from the top of the S to the bottom, and the little "S" is about 3.5".

More of a novelty item than anything else, but the mirror shine is fantastic!  Pictures don't do justice.
