Oil and filter change. First time since I've owned it. PO did not install crush washer on the oil drain plug. Installed fresh washer snd filter housing gasket and filled with my favorite 10W-40 oil. Then rode out to have hoppy beers with my dad.

Rigged my new taillight up and I am loving it!

Heres the comparison:

Stock (89-01) GS500 taillight on the left 99 YZF-R1 taillight on the right.

Before:

After:

Only modification I had to do was drill these two holes so that the tail plastics would fit on:

It was either that or grind down some of the plastics.

I'm real happy with the results, only like 25 bucks on Ebay!
I am into buying bikes that people have given up on and fixing them up!

RIP Patrick Lajko, I miss you man.

That's a cool looking tail light. I'd like to see a pic from farther out with it all assembled.

Thanks! I'll be sure to post one when i get home.

Forgot to follow up on my jetting changes! With the needles shimmed to 1 1/2 richer than stock it's like a different bike! Still a touch hesitant just off idle with a bit of a stumble if I hold the throttle there for a while, and still some pops on decel, but much better than it was even when I had it 1 notch richer than stock.

So I went the whole hog Friday night and now have it 2 notches richer than stock which is the limit of the needle. Haven't had a chance to test ride yet though.

If it's still not right, then it's definitely time for different needles. I've measured the ones in there so I can compare what's available if I need to.

I'll need to revisit the mains after all this because having to go 2 notches up from stock is making me wonder if 4 sizes up on the mains will be enough. Will find out this week...

Oh, I also relocated the on/off switch for my USB charger as the new breather catch tank stopped me being able to access it easily.

Finished up putting my rims back on after having my new Pirelli Sport Demons on, front and back. This is my second set. Cleaned the chain up and chain alignment. Feels so nice  :D

How many miles did you get out of the first set?

Removed the tree branches and  various paper bits that collected next to it during a mini tornado at 3am this morning.... A 8 foot (45kg? Or so) branch swooped in under the pergola roof and missed the bike by 6" .. Gently gently it seems  :icon_eek: ... Close though....

Neighbours lost roofs, trees, windows....

We lost the carport roof ... And the 14' round trampoline..... The roof was all over the back yard... The trampoline...  :dunno_black: .. Just whoosh gone!!!

About 8,000 miles on the rear. Front could have gone for way more but I figured what the heck, I want new all around.

I drive 98% straight highway miles too so my tire was pretty flat in the middle. If you rode on curvy roads and distributed the wear around the tire, they would easily last 10K+.

Did a lot of straightening up of the bike cave. Sorting parts. Do I need 6 brake torque arms? Mirror mounts without mirrors? 10 side stands? A whole storage box full of pegs & brackets? Looks like I'll sort them and take the extras to recycling. I have way too many parts.

Next weekend I'll start sorting out 3 boxes for the 3 bike builds. I'll make a checklist of all the parts needed and start building a box-o-parts for each bike.

Got most all parts off the of junk parts bike. Just the engine and 2 wheels left. I'll remove the wheels then just cut the frame off of the motor since it will go to recycling. Since I got another motor 2 weeks ago I have extras so this motor will probably be used for spare parts.

Cleaned spark plugs in Suzi and Phenix. Boy - did that cure cold starting problems. Seems Brisk plugs, due to the multitude of paths for the spark, tend to get carbon build up with lots of short rides. standard plugs with one spot for the spark will burn off carbon. The Brisk spark goers all over the place so there is less burning off of carbon hence they were a little fouled. So a cleaning brought them back to new.

HINT: Clean Brisk plugs once in a while. I used an aircraft carbon cleaner.

Yep - 40* now and Phenix started right up. He was getting a quite fussy. And when stared he immediately jumps to 4k rpm. Choke off after 10 to 20 seconds.

lubed the chain and I tried out adidiasguy center stand method this afternoon and worked like a charm. :woohoo:

Cleaned out twisted's carbs so get rid of that nagging lean problem only to uncover another problem. Also cured a nagging oil leak on aussiechicks bike too.

.... Found trampoline ... 500m away to south west .... Even gladden I had the bike tucked in hard against the wall!!! :icon_eek:

Fitted the fork brace from chuck. Polished out the machining marks so it is a shame it is not easy to see.

Also took off my Zero Gravity Double-bubble screen and fitted the ZG touring screen from their seconds store. Not sure why it is s second.
Comparo between the two screens:

Test ride after the final needle adjustment Friday night. Sorted! New memory card also sorted the jerky video footage.
