Yeah I'll have a go at just putting it back in for now.... But will leave it till tmw... Mozzies are outside like the Luftwaffe atm .. And I'm gonna replace the fuel lines with new tube ... Cos time before last I tore about 5cm of tube length off... Plus I want longer for tank lifting higher during minor maint things like this...

Anyone think a little smear of LocTite 243 on the outside of brass tube before I tap it back in is a good idea?

NO, I just pushed it back in with a tap of the mallet and it has never leaked at all.

Ok... No it is...

Only mentioned it cos I noticed the tube in one of my toolbars this morning.... It's likely to last me a lifetime at the rate I actually use it... Lol

Not about feeling better... Just wondering if anyone had done it and felt it improved the 'grip' .... Or conversely if it caused issues? .. Like a little bit got inside the fuel line and subsequently got into a jet and gunked it up or something?

I'm good with just tapping it in... Searched threads I looked up seemed about 70% no further issues and remaining items with some issues... Which may just be too much tapping or not careful enough...

I'll be careful enough!! ... Or .. Replace the petcock.. Easy

Erika, those plugs look like mine did on my 97 GS for most of the 80k miles I used it without touching the carbs.  Ran a bit lean for winter use but I had an old CM400 I used winters.

Plugs also looked about the same on my current 02 GS with the 3 circuit carbs that I use year around here in NE OH until the last plug change at 96,800 miles and they both came out black.  Put in hotter DPR7-EA9 plugs and it's still running fine now at over 100k, carbs untouched.  Also changed from 15W-40 to 20W-50 oil at that time.

Don't mess with your carbs and they won't mess with you.  And I'm not afraid of carbs, was a wiz on 4 barrel Quadrajets many decades ago, just a not broke don't fix kinda guy.  I've put a couple bikes back in service without cleaning carbs after they sat a couple years or so, 81 CM400 and 97 GS.

Love tan plugs, hate black ones.   :icon_lol:

And for my bike today, yesterday actually.  Put the big Plexi 2 shield back on for the winter.  A bit early but it's been cold and rainy the last few days and highs in the 40F's predicted for next week.  Been switching them twice a year for about 10 years now but that's a bit early for me.  Guess my old bones are chilling faster now.

Brought Gabby down to the shop to inspect the chain, fix headlight wiring, and figure out why my tach's not working.

2 out of 3 isn't too bad I guess. Fixed the headlight wiring and now have functional high and low beams!

Pulled my sprocket cover and found that I did indeed use a 15t front sprocket. No wonder why my chain is nearing the end of adjusters so soon. Also noticed chain looked like its never been lubed, even though I've lubed it 3 times in the 1,000 miles I've put on it.. Going to be ordering a new 16t front sprocket, maybe another chain for a backup, and a different brand of chain lube.

Still no headway on the tach, no damaged wires, but the screws connection wires to tach have a bit of surface rust. I'm finally ordering a multimeter to see what's going on. Anyone have a clue on a dead tacho? Its an 06 so electronic, not cable driven

Here she is with her head hanging low haha..
if yer binders ain't squeakin, you ain't tweakin!

Cleaned the rascal, good ole garage hose wash and lots of oil gunk cleaning from chain/sprockets and engine region. But m totally lost over chain tension n more than that rear wheel alignment. Have surfed the posts here but my head is all messed up. Totally confused,  :-/. Maybe too many Marlboros while cleaning bike today ;-)

Steez: follow the wires back. 2 wires for the tack go into a 3 pin connector. One wire is a separate barrel connector. I guess one of those is pulled loose. if gauge lights work, the 3 pin connector is probably OK. The barrel connector is the signal from the ICU.

steezin_and_wheezin

Sounds good, 'preciate it adidas! Tacho worked when I first got the bike running. Gauge still lights, and all wires were connected at plug and barrel connector. I did have my wires secured poorly when I first put the dual lights on. It my have hung low enough to pitch it in the steering lock.. I'll look at it closer next time

Ride it like a 2 stroke:
1: Rev high
2: Add oil
3: Repeat

Janx101

picked up fuel line of correct diameter .. enough for both lines... and it was in a 'offcut' length they had sitting on the shelf .. which happened to be pretty much the amount i needed to do the fuel line extension anyway! ..  :thumb: ... and being the 'last of the spool' and an offcut... the nice man gave me the stuff for half price  :D

cant find spring clips to suit the tank end petcock... like rocking horse shaZam! around here!... so zip ties it is! ... the frame petcock ones are still good to go ... only gonna zip the tank end

K&N replacement filter ordered seeing as I cant get one from the dealers in a timely manner, Carb kit ordered, ultrasonic clean booked, Carb boots ordered, Suzuki shim set ordered, 16T front, 39T rear sprocket and new chain ordered......................... going to be busy when it all gets here.

also side note what chain lube do you guys recommend?
You can run, but you'll only die tired.
If you hit it with a hammer and it doesn't fix it, you have an electrical problem
