I've had this bike for about a month now and finally am getting around to posting the pics of it.  It is techincally an F model but I wanted to make it more into a fighter bike so I ripped everything off the moment I got it home.
This is the bike when I brought it home.

This is the bike an hour and a half after I bought it and brought it home.

Then after I had some time to actually work on it this is what I finally got it to look like and this is how it sits now.

Tell me what yall think.  I had to put mirrors and the blinkers back on it cause the troopers in FL are a-holes and gave me a ticket the day after I finished it...always making it worse on us.  Anyway leave comments, good and bad!

Nice bike, but I'm sorry I don't empathise with your decision to remove the blinkers and mirrors. You aren't the only one on the road.

Yea I understand all that but I can't see anything in any mirror on any bike I've ever had so I always look over my shoulder, seems safer to me, no blind spot if you look(plus if I'm at a stop I don't want to see someone about to hit me from behind).  As for blinkers those usually stay on but I had to figure our where to mount them after I got rid of stock mounting places.   But I'd rather have mirrors on and be legal and just look anyway than get a $90 ticket.

Did you just paint over the chrome piece on the can with flat black exhaust paint?

I like the bike man, sweet colors.

wpstarling

Yea I sanded the chrome as best as possible and then painted the exhaust pipes and can with flat black ultra high temp paint.  I wanted a darker green paint for the body pieces but thats all I could find so I went with it, I didn't want to do the whole flat black thing since it's over done and all the other bikes I have had were all black so I went with green.

wpstarling

What do you guys think about painting the rims the same color as the bike?  I was giving it some thought but not sure how it would look.

No offense, but tell your bike im sorry for what you did to it..... I like the color green, but not that. Also that exhaust is kinda terrible. When painting things black like that, you gotta go all out or nothing, engine case, front fork lowers etc.... Even so I dont like a black exhaust can. Im also not digging the headlights, you need something bigger. What happened to the gauges??  Leave the grab bar on too.... I can appreciate the work but Im just not into the result.. Sorry.

it's all good, most people don't like green so I figured I wouldn't have to worry about pulling up to someone that has a bike thats the same color as me.  I am eventually going to paint all those things black but didn't have time/money to do it this time so I left it the way it is.  The gauges were taken off and I moved the speedo so it is attached to the bars(not in pic since I wanted to take pics while there was light left).  The headlights were free so thats why they are there, I didn't like them at first but having ridden with them they are brighter than anything I've ever used so no reason to change them but I would rather have a small round headlight eventually.  Black exhaust isn't for everyone but IMO the chrome looked stupid since (like you mention in your post) you need to go all out with something and that was the only thing chrome on the bike so off it went.

And the grab bar is a waste of space/weight as it's not useful to me or my wife when she rides so thats gone for good.

what did you do with your fairings?

They are sitting in my attic waiting for me to not be lazy and take pictures of them to try and sell them.  You interested?  They're in good condition I just wanted to make a street fighter so I removed em.

No gauges, mirrors or blinkers and you wonder why you were pulled up by the fuzz?

They are not a-holes. You knew full well what is required for a roadworthy vehicle and chose to ignore it and got busted. If you want to play without that kind of gear on the bike, go ride on the dirt.

You sanded and painted over the near perfect new tank and body parts. You do know that that alone cost you over 500 bucks ...

In fact I am looking for a nice stock 01+ body set, wifey liking the one on jeb's bike but suggests blue/white look better.

Cool.

The gauges were put back on the bike after these pics were taken.  I took the pics while there was light out and then finished the gauges so they are on there.  As for the blinkers and mirrors, I didn't have time.  My only point of saying they were a-holes is cause they give warnings for speeding 25+mph but then the same cop gives a ticket for no mirrors...not sure how mirrors are more important than not speeding but whatever.

Buddha, if you are interested in the fairings PM me, and yes I am well aware of what the parts i painted cost new but wanted my bike to not be silver and black so I painted it.

I kinda feel bad for that beautiful stock paint job, I would have traded you my blue tank that has some scratches in it for that beautiful grey one...

Fairings, also.

Im in FL too, your CRAZY to take off your safety stuff. Im trying to make mine brighter and better because people are such idiots down here.

If I do something like that again next time i'll post up cause I would have traded someone but considering I have seen on GS here ever i didn't bother looking for someone to trade tanks with.  I took it all off when i took the fairings off since it was attached and was planning on getting some led blinkers that weren't as big as the stock ones and then I want bar end mirrors but I had to ghetto rig all that back on.

The front fairings are still the stock silver color and are in good condition if those are the ones you like.

Now you want to paint perfectly good wheels? I've got a couple sets of wheels with dings in the paint that need to be painted. Why paint perfectly good parts (wheels, fairings, tank) when there are plenty of parts that have a scratch or two that need painting and people that want factory original parts that don't have scratches? It makes no sense to do that. There are plenty of scratched exhausts that you could have painted and traded someone for your good one.

Reminds me of the bobber thread. People take a perfectly good bike and turn it into a POS. If you wanted to paint it a not so attractive green, then start with a bike that needed painting. Like others said, they would have gladly traded scratched parts for your good parts or even paid you for them.

As for taking off the turn signals and reflectors - you deserve a ticket. There are federal regulations on required safety equipment. Also, remember that safe riding is not you seeing them. It is all about THEM being able to SEE YOU so they don't hit you! Warning for 25+? Could have been a mistake or not noticed the speed limit. Removing the safety equipment - that is an intentional disregard for safety for yourself and the other drivers on the road. Smaller LED blinkers? Sure they are cute, but a driver near you won't see them as well. There's a reason DOT requires turn signals in the rear be at least 9" apart.

Federal requirement for 5 reflectors (which you seem to have removed): orange on each side in the front. Red on each side in the rear and one on the tail.

See the last few pages of this document: http://www.nhtsa.gov/cars/rules/maninfo/mcpkg002.pdf

Some other thread has a link for requirements for each state. Some states require one mirror, some two. Some states have restrictions on the age of a passenger, some have helmet laws, and so forth. Maybe someone else can remember what that link is.
Never mind - I found it:
http://msf-usa.org/downloads/Equipment_Chart_2010.pdf

Here's another summary of state regulations: http://www.bikernation.net/motorcyclelaws.htm

Good news is you can do away with your helmet if 21 yrs. & over with health insurance with $10,000 medical benefits for injuries. But you must have your mirrors and reflectors, though turn signals are optional from what I see (unless they are required if originally on the motorcycle? or federal law overrides state law in this case? Anyway - you should have them!)

Bar end mirrors? If that's what you want then you should have ordered them. You can get them mail order in a day or pick them up at a local shop. 5 minutes to install them - max. No excuse for not having your mirrors or saying you had to "ghetto rig all that back on".

Remember: Just because you can buy it on ebay doesn't make it legal. A lot of stuff is sold designed for show or "posing". Once you're on the road - you have to be legal. If you're parked and posing, you can do anything you want. Case in point: blue LED's. OK for posing. When on the road: turn them off. Blue is for police only. White or amber is OK. (There are some restrictions on "ground effects" which is shining on the ground as opposed to just illuminating the engine and suspension so check your local laws on that one. Ground effects are illegal in WA, however illuminating the area in the fairing, suspension, tail or engine is OK as long as you're not directly lighting the ground below the vehicle.)

I don't mean to be ragging on you but as I get older and ride more, I see safety as being very important. As restoring my 92 and 94 (Junior and Trey) I also see the value in original unblemished parts, as in the original still-in-the-box 1994 tank I found for Junior. I have another red one and I just can't bring myself to painting it. I'll paint a used one and keep this other one factory original, on my shelf, in the original box, just in case it is needed.

Hey, you could have done worse:

I'd have to be insane to paint an original, never used tank:
