Removing top triple clamp

I'm replacing my handlebars with a set of clip ons but am not sure how to remove the large bolt that attaches to the steering stem. The Clymer manual doesn't give a good explanation of removing the darn thing. I checked my socket set and I don't have one big enough to do the job. This is the bolt I'm talking about:



How do I remove it? Thanks.

Hmmm, now that I look at it again the bolt only seems to be holding the bottom clamp and not the top one. That's a relief.

There are 2 bolts that go through items #9 and 10.
You won't see those bolts until you remove your bars. They are located UNDER the handle bars where they sit on the cradle in the top plate.
Remove the 4 bolts that hold the bars on and you'll see the 2 bolts you remove. Warning: those sukkas are on TIGHT and the nut underneath may have a locking cotter pin.

In addition to what adidasguy said you also have to keep in mind that the part that currently holds your handle bars (top bit of the yoke) also holds  your instruments (speedometer, tach etc.) in place. If you're putting on original clip-ons ('89 model) that shouldn't be a problem. If it's something aftermarket you may have to improvise there.
