My engine code is M501-133422; my front sprocket has no extra 'shoulder'/hub flange - curious, since the frame tag states manufacture in 12/94 ...So it would seem I have a swapped engine as well? The wiki states that the 1994-2007 engines use the wider sprocket with flange

You can fit the old sprocket on the new engine but you can't fit the new sprocket on an old engine.

Are you sure an old sprocket hasn't been fitted to your bike inadvertently?
