Any tips on putting an engine back in the frame?

The new exhaust valves arrived and yesterday my mechanic neighbour and I put the engine back together. (Well, him mostly  :D )

Tonight after work I'm going to be putting the engine back in the frame and hooking it up. I remember the hassle it was taking it out, and I'm hoping to make putting it back a bit easier.

I haven't put the valve cover back on yet and I'm thinking I'll leave it off to give it a bit more clearance on top. I'm also thinking of taking the left engine case off as that caused some clearance issues before.

Any thoughts or ideas from those who have done this before? If it makes any difference this is an 00 engine and an 05 frame.

Did you take off that piece of the right side of the frame? I believe that comes off so the engine easily slips in and out.

Yes, I took that piece off, and "easily slips in and out" is not how I would describe the process

I left the valve cover off and ended up taking the stator cover off to get more clearance. Got it in but didn't have enough time to finish hooking up everything. Tomorrow will see if the beast fires up.

you put it in exaust ports first
Then you turn it around so the exaust face forward and lever it gently back into place
I got the back bolts in first
I made a small wooden trolley out of scrap timber to sit the motor on the sump using 4 casters 200mm high overall it worked well

Yeah I wrestled for half a day trying to get mine in with my trolley jack, ended up doing what you did. I feel your frustration. Funny though the engine came out so much easier.

And that if he'd write a letter of condolance he would at least spell your name right.

The only other engine I've taken out was from an R6 and I remember that being easier than this to deal with. Every time I have to work on this pig - and that is far too often as we seem to have gotten ourselves a lemon - I find another reason to hate the designers of this bike.

Yeah most engineers have no clue on how stuff actually should go together, be maintained and come apart. I maintain they (engineers) should spend 3 years in the trade they want their degree in.
