So, I jetted the bike, no lunchbox yet, w/e

A log while back I posted that I did the timing advance mod, it said 5 degrees, I did a slot, with the highest point being 7 degres, and the middle mark 5.

Noe, I never noticed a HUGE DIFFERENCE, may have been in my mind.

Well, not I have al the vac lines plugged off and w/e, so only thing extra on this carb is the TPS.

First, I reset timing back to stock, ride. then unplug it and ride home, nearly no difference, slightly high idl.

5 degrees with tps, same as above, nothing major going on, kinda like nothing happened
repeat for 7 degrees

But, now, except for the stock timing, when I disconnect the tps, there is a NOTICEABLE difference!

Has MUCH better low and mid range grunt, and 9krpm dont sound like a dying cat trying to sneeze, its throatier.

My Conclusion, and you can try it yourself, do multible tests, with and without the TPs, and with and without the ignition advance.

Then why is it that most stupid people have no idea they're stupid?

Dunno how it all works but someone once told me that in the USA it is illegal to modify a motorcycle in a way that makes it become non-compliant with EPA emissions requirements......is this true? Google is a bit fuzzy on the subject.

It is true but rarely enforced.  Most states do not have emissions inspection programs and even those that do are focused mostly on gasoline powered cars and light trucks, not motorcycles.

warning - carb noob here..

got anymore info on this?
would like to know the reason you plugged all the vac lines?

i've read the wiki on the timing advance mod, but do you just unplug the TPS? or does it need to be removed?

any photos?

getting ready to start back into my 04, and would love to do this!
if yer binders ain't squeakin, you ain't tweakin!

Throttle Positioning Sensor

found some info on adjusting tps on wiki, after seeing what the sensor looks like. i'm guessing you just unplugged it xunedeinx?

Yes

In response to emissions, the feds have no clear cut emission standards yet, so removing them isnt a biggie.

Yes I just unplugged it. eventually Ill make a nice plate so that side of the bike is clean, and dont have a black leech stuck to it.

Timing advance mod- when I first did it 7or so months ago, I thought I felt a difference, but it may have been in my head. recently I undid it, and it was exactly the same. So, Knowing that in the wiki and here on the forum its thought that timing advance dont work on gs500f models, and looking at the minute differences, I figured that the TPS was involved with the timing advance not working, along with the rest of the emissions crap. The white valves on top of the carbs, the vacuum solonoid, and the rest of the carb shaZam! is just in the way. I only have the petcock up to one carb.

Also, In my frugal searches on here, there was an old post about the bike changing into 3d timing mode to 2d mode when emissions components are broke or not missing. I assumed 2d mode would be the same as how the bike was before the TPS and stuff. 3d mode is just the dumbed down version of emissions crap.

And, if anyone thinks it NEEDS to be there, this about this. Suzuki stuck an oil cooler on it to help it run cooler in the f models, which also knocks down NOX emissions ( I think its NOX, plz no flame if im wrong) and they added the new TPS and white top valves on top of the diaphram where there used to be just a black cap.

Its their way or making the bike legal to sell for another couple years before the epa says no more carbed bikes.
