Wow really cool project, keep the updates coming and pictures! The RS125 seat cowls are freaking awesome. Another member did that for his race bike... Jealous of you guys.
I am into buying bikes that people have given up on and fixing them up!

RIP Patrick Lajko, I miss you man.

All pipes are universal if you can weld.

Be aware, this is not very wise advise!

Yep

And speaking of thumpers .....  I'm really tempted to put a DR650 motor in the GS ....  talk me out of it  :cookoo:

Well I figured out what foot pegs these are .......

Honda NT650 Hawk. Now I can start looking for a brake pedal for them. If you're looking to shed about 3lbs they almost bolt right up. Peg location is very similar to stock which is a good thing as I'm 6' 3"

So it occurred to me it might be a good idea to actually start the bike before I go any further.   :D

And that brings me to this question ........ why the huge variation in main jets???? Seems like people are running everything from 125 to 150's for mains.  :dunno_black:

I'll be running separate UNI foam pods (no airbox), stock header with the Jardine can mentioned above. Anybody using a similar set-up and what mains are you running?

(yes, I've searched, read all the threads, checked out the matrix, etc. again ........... main jet choices seem to be all over the place)

Thanks

BockinBboy

Very cool project.

Hope your thread doesn't run out of lives in the process... only has so many revivals, you know?  :icon_lol:

Yeah, I'm easily distracted ......... hey look, a squirrel!!

My latest distraction was this.....

I wasn't really looking for one, it just sorta fell in my lap. I've had SR's in the past and always regretted selling them, so now that it's running I can focus on the GS once again.

Just ordered carb rebuild kits, jets, head bearings, fork seals and springs so hopefully I'll be updating more often in the future.

fleshpiston

OH HELL YEAH ! ! !

It runs  :woohoo:

Got my parts in yesterday, rebuilt the carbs today, hooked up my test tank and fired it up. It runs great! I gotta admit I'm pretty stoked  :D  This is the first time we've heard it run.

And here's the future pilot....... he actually smiled for a change!

Now I need to finalize the seat mounts and clean up the titled frame for powder coat. Then I can swap this running motor in. Sounds so easy!

fleshpiston

Oh, and I did a rough trim on the seat "ears"  ........ I think I like it  :thumb:

Eventually it will meet up with the tank much cleaner but it's a decent start. The seat looks big and bulbous by today's standards but I think it matches the proportions of the tank pretty well.

Big Rich

Yes sir, that rocks!

Congrats man! Hopefully the rest of the build up doesn't give you any grief.

i was gunna go with hurricane 600 similar to F2-3 or 80's interceptor.   the shifter mount on the peg in the exact wrong place tells me its a honda part.....

Thanks for the comments guys

Today's project was to get the exhaust fitted...... happy to say we pretty much did!

I thought the mid pipe that came with the muffler might just work so I had it flared to be a nice snug fit over the stock pipe. Not sure it this will be clamped or welded later, it would probably hold up just fine as is but we'll see.

Well that was easy enough ..... lets see how it fits on the bike

Not too bad! The only thing I don't like is the angle it sits at ..... I wish it ran more parallel with the bike

It's not too bad I guess, I can live with it considering how easy it went together. We still need to grind the bracket on the mid pipe off, and make a hanger for it too. The header will just get some high temp black. Done.

And the sound? Perfect. Nice mellow deep tone and much quieter than I expected ..... that's a good thing.  :thumb:  We'll see how it is once the packing beds in.

Throttle response suffered though. It used to rev nice and crisp but now it hesitates, apparently my carb settings liked the back pressure so I'll have to get that sorted out.

Time for a beer!
