Another funky idea.

Has anyone ever tired hooking a PCU fan up to their stock airbox, sealing the edges some how.. and running it on 85% spin? Is this possible? Cause I was thinking today while cleaning up some parts from my computer.. that It might work if you connected a fan. High powered one that could blow pretty hard threw the airfilter. into the engine. I understand if my theory is correct that I'd need to re-jet pretty damn high also maybe get a new after market exhaust. I was curious if this would actually work to "increase air flow" ^_^  :dunno_black:

I think the concept is there...but I'm not sure it would do much.  What you've come up  with is a "poor man's" turbocharger.  But if you compare an actual turbo.. construction wise, to a coumputer fan...big difference.....I think a turbo will move much, much more air, and at higher pressure, than the little fan....

Reminds me of an invention a buddie came up with for racing his sports car.  He took a couple of windhield washer motors and reservoirs, mounted them in the front wheel wells, with the washer spray aimed at the brake discs.   He hooked the elecrtric up to the brake lights.  So when you step on the brake, you get cooling water onto the discs...Worked great, best brakes in the race...until he ran out of water with 10 laps to go!

What do you plan on achieving from this? If it did manage to move more air than stock (and it won't) your engine would suddenly be lean and run worse.

However, using such a fun in front of the oil cooler (on F models) could improve the cooling efficiency if you do a lot of slow riding in hot weather.

I actually have a Quad set of frans im putting on my oil cooler.. ^_^ already thought of that. little powerful little suckers..

and I'd rejet if I did this.. lol... Derp?

They would move more air, but not more pressure.

If anything it would cause the bike more problems at higher speed.

Computer fans do not generate anywhere close to the necessary CFM numbers to make any sort of difference. Also, any fan that would be powerful enough to move the required amount of air would both be TOO big and put too much strain on the alternator if it would even run at all.

Two 92mm fans with a switch in front of the oil cooler might make somewhat of a difference. You'd need to fashion some type of bracket so they weren't right on top of the cooler (it would melt the plastic). Any larger than 92mm and the fan isn't really going to do much good. The bigger computer fans spin slower and thus the velocity of air produced isn't as high. This means that the air would get "blown off course" on its way to the cooler OR might cause it to go around the cooler instead of through it.

Vantec makes a fan called the "Tornado" that would be ideal for this. It pushes over 100CFM. Two of them would be great.

Delta also makes a badass fan.

Here's the two I would recommend:

Both of those fans draw close to or over an amp of power. Just keep that in mind. The leads need to be heavy duty so the wires don't melt (meaning don't use headphone wires).

You could add a ram air duct....it takes no fans neither circuitry...
Just don't forget what one user said in this board (I can't remember who), the only cost effective way to get faster, is to buy a faster bike!
