Rebuilt float but now hanging revs

Hey guys, I got the carb rebuild kit and replaced the worn o-rings and needles that were causing flooding. Put everything back together and now the bike is running much better, except, for the hanging revs.

I start the bike with choke and it fires right up, shoots up to 4k and I immediately start pulling back the choke.
I get it down to about 2k and then slowly back off the choke until its off and the bike idles at ~1200-1300.

It's when I give it a rev that it stays up at 3k.

I managed to get the revs to come down by backing out the idle screw, at which point the revs drop down. Then I reset the idle back to 1200. This leads me to believe that my throttle cable is sticking/I put it on too tight or something. Easy enough to check.

Searching the problem, I found this:

At what rpms does it hang?
When you blip the engine, does it return to idle immediately or is it slowly comming down (like more than 2 secs)?
If it's slow at returning it may be your valves. I've had the same problem. Idle was slowly comming down, and sometimes it got stuck at around 2-3K rpm.

The bike only has 10100 miles on it, is it worth checking the valves or just playing with the throttle?

Just wanted to give everyone an update after all the help.
Thanks,

1st, be sure the throttle cables are not sticking, then check for air leaks by spraying carb cleaner all around the carbs when the bike is running....the idle will change if you have an air leak when you spary the carb cleaner in that area.  I would assume it's gonna be an air leak since you recently had the carbs off for cleaning/rebuilding.

Played with it some more today. Revs still hang even if throttle cable is disconnected so it's not the throttle cable.

Tried spraying carb cleaner around the gasket between the carbs and the engine but that didn't change the revs. What other areas should I check?

direct the spray at all little areas on the carbs and especially around the air boots.  I just found the small air leak on mine that is causing my warm engine slight hanging idle.  Mine is on the left carb at the c-clip that holds the carb butterfly.  I am going to try to get some white lithium grease in there to help seal it up but still allow it to move freely.  Keep looking, you will find the air leak.....you might have to get the bike warmed up before you can detect it.

My revs were hanging due to the idle being set too high.   You have to get the bike plenty warmed up before setting idle.   I would take it for a good highway run then set it at a rest area or something.    Just running it on the stand five or ten minutes didn't do it for me, so I was setting it too high..

Good luck!
