Hey everyone,

I bought a 1989 off my brother in law a couple years ago, I got a good deal because it wasn't running.  I cleaned and rebuilt the carbs put new jets in, new fuel lines and new spark plugs and it ran perfectly. It has just over 13,000 km (8000 miles) on it, it has factory clip ons, brand new tires and I think my brother-in-law may have put a new rear sprocket on it too but I'm not sure.  It looks ugly with a non matching gas tank and cracked plastics and it has been dropped by some kids who pushed it down the street when it was parked by the house one night. Mechanically all it needs is a new choke cable and a new battery.  Cosmetically it needs a bit more.  I rode about 500 miles on it last year and had no issues with it.  I liked riding so much I went out and bought a Kawasaki Concours so I could go on some nice long trips and I don't have room for both bikes.  So I'm going to put it on craigslist, what would you sell something like this for? Do you think $1,200 is fair?

I'd say list it for $1000 and take down to $800 on that beast.

Guy's very new to the forum. Looking to get your opinion. on the following bike. Not knowing to much about the bike, what should I be looking for when I check out the bike?  I will also plan on selling it probably next year to get something bigger. The guy said he has the fairings as well which may be broken.

Obviously the front fairing is off and there doesn't seem to be a headlight or front turn signals. You can add the naked bike 7" headlight pretty easy and turn signals.
Bar ends are crooked but an easy fix.
One question is if the forks are bent.

If all is legit, $1000 is a steal. Worth much more.

Maybe $500 at most to fix whatever might be wrong.

Guys I went ahead and bough the bike. This bike is almost super clean with scuffs on the left side where the previous owner did drop the bike. The engine is super clean. It does have only 2611 miles on it so its a brand spanking new engine. So for a $1000 bucks this was a great buy. Ohh the previous owner also give me all the fairings with nuts and bolts which are in great condition.

I have two questions.

1. With the engine being so new is there a break in period for it?

2. Since the fairing were off the I just got the fairings with me. I dont know how to fix them. Is there a video showing me how to fix them. I did see a video on the side fairings but the front one i have no idea. The prev owner did give me all the nuts and bolts with it. If I saw how to take it off. I would know how to put it back on.

Is there a video anywhere which shows how to get the front fairing off or on for the bike?

Sounds like a good buy so far.  Make sure you check all the vitals in tip top before taking her out. Brakes, Tires, etc... A lot to look over till its ready.

Front end looks trashed.. not sure if thats primer on the tank or something taped on (Tag, inventory slip, etc).

Ok called this guy today. They are a scrap yard. he is firm on the price. He says the tank should be clean but he wasnt near the picture or the bike to check.

Its a 150 mile round trip at 3 hours (there and back).

Supposedly firm on the price. Scrap title (not salvage) and I would pay sales tax so its 530 out the door.

With these two pictures to go from what do you guys think? The front looks pretty trashed.. Would this be worth going to take a look? Addidas may have a good answer or someone who parts these out. Is something this new although damaged worth it in some easy parts to sell and then keep any necessities for myself?

My current GS is my first GS. so thats why I ask.

So I looked at what was missing to get the front end fairing up. It looks like the guy i bough the bike from did not give me all the parts. i.e. Front/headlight cowl brace and the black part that goes behind the headlight fairing.

So i called the guy that sold the bike to me. He said he has that. I'll just go by and get it and put it on the bike.

Btw I can now compare the Suzuki GS500F to the Kawasaki Ninja EX-500. Both are great bikes for 500cc. However the Ninja has more mid end torque. And a better exhaust note. Still dont know which one bike prefer more.
