So I think I need a longer throttle cable  >:(

No matter what I do I can't adjust the throttle so there's no free play, and now that it's routed correctly it opens the throttle when turning the bars full left or full right...  :dunno_black:

The motorcross 'bars must have just enough extra width to need a longer cable   :dunno_white:

Civil/Civic Engineers. They might have a piece of paper but man are they dumb. The "I have no idea how to do what you do, but my book says you're doing it wrong" kinda dumb.

.. Just in case... I have standard bars .. But .. Last time I was under the tank ... And 'tidy things up' I tightened up that big loose zip tie kinda thing on the cross member .. That roughly holds the cables central .... And after bolting tank back down .. Had throttle 'control' with left right turning.... Loosened that tie thing back up to where it was and went away! ...

Your wider bars might do same thing... But the whole cable needs to more or less be flexible across the under tank area

Granted, the GS500F is a different bike than yours BUT! ...
I had a similar problem after installing bar-risers and after hours of tinkering with the trotter cables... I found that the CHOKE was coming on slightly when I would do a sharp turn and causing the bike to idle-up fast.

Tinkered with the choke system and the no more problems!
Just sayin'

Cheers Janx and EJ...

Janx, I know it's routed 100% correctly according to the manual, but I definitely strapped it down to the frame backbone, so will have to loosen that up and see if there's a difference. I'm guessing now that there will be a way to make it work, I just need to figure what it is...

EJ, I made a bracket and adapter etc. so I could use the 'bar mounted choke lever off a newer GSXR 600 rather than the lever directly on the carb, so there's a chance this could be happening too, although it didn't happen until I changed throttle tubes and adjusted the throttle cable...

And on an LPW note... public holiday today

The graduated pitch of the "trick" throttle tubes that are available...
I have a question...

Do they make the first 10% of cranking on the throttle more aggressive?
Or more gentle as compared to a stock (linear) throttle tube?

BTW: Slips... Get back to work! >:(

The throttle tube I bought is the Motion Pro R1 tube... it's not graduated as such, just has a larger diameter where the throttle cable runs around it to make it a quicker action.

I'm now 100% confused tonight as I pulled the stock 'bars out and they're the same width as the motorcross 'bars  :technical:

So how the hell do I not have enough throttle cable length?  :dunno_black:

This is nuts  :cookoo:

Tank is going to have to come off again...

Think you said it yourself Pete ... Larger diameter where the cable runs around? .. Isn't that going to eat up just a little length? ... Unless cable starts at 'degree zero/entry point' to the larger diameter bit it's taking a few extra mm per radius section I think...

It takes minimal movement of the throttle to effect rpm change .. So a few mm could change things yeah? .... A graduated version would in theory start at standard diameter and increase sharply after '15 degrees?' of rotation to increase the cable take up ratio ...

Again ... I think?!
