Hahaha! My mate's has a Power Commander and he's had a fiddle with maps etc. but is having trouble getting it to idle nicely in traffic... I suggested the throttle position sensor as he mentioned it didn't seem to be reading correctly. I didn't realise there was a secondary one! I'll have to have a chat with him tomorrow...

If it's a DL1000, they all run like sh!t in traffic. And the hotter the weather, the worse they run.  >:(  :technical:

The secondary TPS (the one at the top of the throttle body) is seldom a problem.
It's the primary TPS that is prone to failure.
It is positioned low on the throttle body and when it gets hot from the engine it will malfunction.
After a long highway ride the primary TPS will lose its ability to inform the ECU that you are off the throttle and trying to simply idle.

Here is a link to a Suzuki factory video of a TPS adjustment on a TL1000 which is very similar to the DL1000...
http://www.vstrom.info/Movies/TPS_TB_Tuning.mpg

And below are few shots of the TPS on my own DL1000...

The yellow arrow shows one of the two almost impossible adjustment screws on the lower left side of the forward throttle body.

It has been my experience that once cool, a bad TPS sender will still test good on the bench!
The best thing to do is just spent the $65 and replace with new.

Aaaaah I see! I will have a chat with him today and pass on your experience  :thumb:

Had a nice but short ride Saturday morning... noone else showed up at the usual spot so I went solo, nice brekky... then my jacket zipper failed leaving the cafe so I cut it short and headed straight home  :technical:

Zipper is fixed with some pliers... could've fixed it on the spot and kept riding

Ive done a lot of work on the DL1000 over the years.
I am specifically familiar with the 2004 to 2009 models, however the older & newer models (up to the the new "pecker nosed" 2014 Vee) are all very similar.
They all run like sh!t under about 3500 RPM no matter how much time and money you dump into them.
Trust me, I know.

If I was a short guy, like maybe 5' 8" I would have traded my Vee a long time ago, but I'm 6'3" and have some mighty long legs.
With taller handlebars and a peg lowering kit the big Vee fits me perfectly.
Yeah, it's slow, top heavy, and a shitty runner, but damn is she ever comfortable!  :thumb:

A "Wee" is a DL650 V-Strom (based on the popular SV650 mill) and they are rock solid, stable, durable, performers.

A "Vee" is a DL1000 (based on the old TL1000) and they are, well, shall we say a tad less than reliable. :icon_rolleyes:
* Idling/stalling problems come and go without warning.
* Nasty clutch issues abound. Chudder, clutch-slap, idle-hammer, etc...
* They typically don't like heat.
* Their stators have a tendency to self destruct, repeatedly!
* Gear shift problems caused by improper rear wheel offset, (which I still haven't fully grasped).
* Oh, Did I mention the countless ECU recalls to try and get the fueling right?

Be thankful your Wee is not a Vee.
Just saying.

My mate's looks exactly like yours EJ... 2006 and same colour! So far he's likin' it but he doesn't do a lot of traffic, only if he has to ride in to work...

Yama,
Just like when you're alone... in deep space... on an automated mining ship.
Systems fail, things go wrong, but you keep improvising until you reach a friendly parsec.

God Speed Sir.
