The Kat's back off the road... swapping the VM33 Smoothbores out for a loan set of stock carbs so I can get the VM33's sorted out. The low throttle and closed to open transition is nasty and killing my confidence in the twisties so I need to do something.

Also discovered my neutral and oil pressure lights go out when turning the 'bars. It seems when I made the dash I didn't give the harness any support, so friction when turning has caused the harness to stretch and pull on the soldered connections. Making an extra part for the mounting bracket so I can cable tie the harness securely and prevent any further yanking on it.

And I'm doing some paint for a mate as well of some of his Kat parts. Still stripping paint off the cowl for the moment.

Have you tried changing your DNS settings at home from Auto to Google's public DNS?  That seems to be helping most people get back on, even on mobile until something gets sorted with the DNS records for the forum.  You can switch back to auto at anytime if you need to.  Just make sure you close all of your web browsers before you change the setting.  I shared this link the other day if you need a "how to".   https://developers.google.com/speed/public-dns/docs/using

Let me know if you have any questions or need any help.....I'm happy to help people get back on to keep the forum going.  I always find some great info on here.

(man, these questions to post are finicky with spelling and spacing.)

Hi mikeg! No I haven't tried that but I will have to! I'll copy and save your information to a note file and take it home with me so I can read it there. Thank you!

After you post 5 times, those questions will go away :thumb:

Fingers crossed Showbiz!!!

Mostly got the body filler done on the front cowl, missed one spot and a couple of the deeper repairs need a bit more, but close.

Need to start on the other parts tonight but at this point I think I'll be ready to paint on Sunday as planned unless I discover something out of the ordinary.

Haha yep can't myself, gotta be doing something!

Body filler on everything last night, mostly sanded back but should finish that tonight.

I did manage to fix the Kat dash and get it back on, so now just need to sort those loaner stock carbs.

The big project this year is going to be doing the kitchen in September... half looking forward to it, half dreading it, but looking forward to the end result and going from electric hot plates to gas  :thumb:

I had to change my DNS settings a month or two ago. I was able to access at home again after that. That rack is RAWKIN'!!!!!  :woohoo:

Making sure win!

I get blamed for EVERYTHING around here!
:woohoo:

Funnily enough it's working ok for me, except on my phone when using the work wireless it doesn't work... but I don't really do much from there anyway...  :dunno_black:

More filling/sanding done on my mate's parts, should be finishing the sanding today/tonight ready for painting tomorrow. Weather prediction is perfect painting weather too  :thumb:

Also gave the pilot circuits and jets from the loaner stock Kat carbs a good clean with carbie cleaner last night as they were pretty blocked by the looks, and a momentary fire up had her rev'ing with the choke on and choke off still had quite high an idle, so that looks more promising than the first fire up last week where she wouldn't idle at all.

This morning I should get some time to get the carbtune pro on to balance the carbs and get the fuel screws set right. Then it'll be test ride time!

Carbs balanced but definitely too lean... have to have the fuel screws out 4.5 turns to get close to 14 on the AFR gauge. 3 turns out is when they say go up a size.

I'm also lean up top on the mains, cracking the throttle up a hill has the AFR heading up towards 16, steady throttle has it under 13, so I've also gone too rich on the needle.

I'll need to get some size 50 pilots during the week, but I'll drop the needle back to the middle notch again and go up from the 115 mains to the 122.5's I already have here.

Really want to get this sorted because I miss riding my Kat... it was nice getting a test ride in yesterday and it's made me even more keen to sort it because the closed to open throttle hesitation is gone meaning corners are fun again!

Bigger pilots ordered yesterday, fingers crossed they arrive today. Bigger mains installed and needles dropped back to the middle position.

Got my mate's paint done on Sunday, going to take it back to him tomorrow night and with any luck be able to get a pic in the sun.

Yay another poster!  :woohoo:

Keeping it alive alone is a struggle...  :D

After pic in a little bit of natural lighting of my mate's parts, and as predicted the minute I wanted to take it the sun disappeared and didn't come out again  :dunno_black:

He's happy with them, all that matters  :thumb:

The stock loaner carbs on the Kat are pretty close to dialed in now too. Need to confirm on the fun ride tomorrow but still likely need to drop one main jet size yet.

The sun does that here too :technical:

I love seeing your progress pics!

Will you post pictures of the kitchen project? I'd love to see what you do.

Cheers! It was a little bit of a rush job but my mate is happy with the end result  :thumb:

Unfortunately he's pretty busy between now and the big ride he needed them done by so I won't get to see them on his Kat until then.

Showbiz... kitchen pic's 'ey? We shall see, but yeah I'll likely do some before/during/after pic's  ;)

Our tap in the sink has literally just sprung a leak due to rusting through, so it's good timing! It just has to last another four weeks...

Stock loaner carbs are now sorted on the Kat so I can get on with enjoying the ride now  :thumb:

That buys me time to figure the VM33's out, the one big noticeable difference is that the stock CV's don't stretch your arms out mid throttle unless you get the rev's up above 5K, whereas the VM33's give you a nice little arm stretch mid throttle regardless.

Had a very enjoyable ride out yesterday now the carbs are sorted  :thumb: :D
