exhaust bolts

I just yanked my exhaust off and the bolts didn't come out easily.  It looks like at least one is stripped and the rest appear to be fine, but only one threads a bolt back in easily.  I figure it's time for a tap and new bolts.  The only question is, with Jeeps we replace the exhaust hardware with brass to avoid corrosion and seizing...is the same true with a bike?  Or has nobody done it, and I just need to be the guinea pig?

Some members have been making this recommendation for years, chrome plated studs with brass nuts  .........do a search

Brass exhaust fittings an effective mod on an engine. Makes long term maintenance easier. Manufacturers have moved away from brass because of cost. With the GS, I give the exhaust bolts a bit of a squirt of WD40 every few months.  Can't hurt.

using a good anti seize will fix it for easy take off later

Anti seize - yes.
Clean the doles out with the proper tap. Be very careful to go straight in (remember the engine sits at an angle so your brain/eye thing will get all confused).

Use new bolts if yours are crudded up. Or run them through a die to clean the rust off of the threads.

(Been there - done both things and 3 things if you include anti-seize)

I switched my header bolts with stainless ones.  The originals were tough to get out, as they were rusted.  Haven't had a problem since.
