When I first started my '92 project bike this forum and its members helped me out from start to finish. You guys are great. Thank you. 

Now that I am starting my 2nd of 3 project bikes, a '91 Kawasaki Vulcan 500 (pic below), I have truly learned just how awesome this community is.



Taking what I had learned from here and my experience on the GS500 rebuild, I jumped right in on my new project. Even though the motors and carbs are very similar to each other I ran into a couple of things I wanted some clarification on before continuing my work. So, since I had found a great resource in this community with my GS, I figured I would go online and find a Vulcan forum to use while working on my bike. Sounds reasonable, right?
Well, WRONG !!!

I sat down and searched through the forums I found and was able to locate some info on a couple of my questions, and the rest I just typed up in a new thread.
The first reply I got was a snarky comment on how my cleaning job on the carbs was not perfect. The second post left me with more questions than answers.
So about an hour goes by after the second post while I went out to my bike to gather the info and double check some stuff mentioned in that second post. When I go back to the forums to post a reply I find that my post had been deleted !?!?!!
There was no PM from an admin/mod and after double checking the forum rules I could find on reason for my post to have been removed. So I sent a PM to the forum mod and site admin asking what happened. Here it is two days later and I still have no reply from either of them.
Seriously !?!??!

OK, my rant is over with. Sorry about the venting here.

Anyways, I learned a very important lesson. Not all online communities are created equal. And you guys are some of the best.
My GS runs beautifully now and I have learned a tremendous amount. All thanks to this forum and all of you here on it.
So, once again, "Thanks everyone".

I've noticed a lot of other bike forums, well, suck.
They are a little clique ish, and they seem to ignore the new guy.
Worse yet, they are either devoted to comepletely flaky pursuits, like 90% of the posts are about fitting saddlebags, or some other BS.
Some forums are an excuse for political rants.

Anyway, I've split a few of these vulcan 500's and its ilk in my past. I think I recently worked on my neighbors vulcan 500 starter. But I could clear the cobwebs out of my brain and see what I remember.

And you pretty much hit it right on the head about other forums.
Right now I am fighting these damn carbs. Just ordered a set of float bowl O-rings and float needles. Hopefully that will solve part of my fuel leaking issues.

As far as I am concerned a bike is a bike no matter what brand, The love of the GS brought you here and you happen to have another breed of bike with issues, We have all been there so ask away and ignore the haters. I am sure you will find your answers among the many here.

I agree that many of the bike forums are truly just "social media".

As the owner of several bikes I can offer a couple that are very helpful (besides this one).

The BMW forum is great for technical help and has a great buy/sell/swap section....oh and travel assistance.
BritBike.com  can pretty much answer any question on any British Bike....new or 50 years old.
