Anyone Seen This Video?

Long story short: woman in a car tries to merge into biker dude's lane and nearly runs him into oncoming traffic. Biker dude involves police.

I hadn't seen it before you posted it. What the rider did was definitely one way to handle the situation.

But, had it been me, I would have just slowed down (assuming it was safe to do so based on traffic behind me) and let the lady in a hurry get in front of me even though she was technically cutting me off. Her needs are obviously far more important than the guy on the bike. People are stupid. I care more about arriving safe and alive than being "right". Unless there was some physical contact between the bike/biker and car that I missed, I don't really see the need to get the police involved.

+1 to this, for sure. I'm constantly anticipating, expecting and correcting for other people's negligence on the road. It sucks, it's frustrating, but it's just what I do.

Stuff like this happens every day on the road. It doesn't matter if I'm in a RAM 1500 or on my GS. I too would just slow down, honk, and let her pass. She might have just failed to notice that the lanes merged because of the box truck. No reason to make such a big deal about it.

What I found most amazing about the video was the cop's reaction; it's otherwise a bit melodramatic. Regardless, it's nice to see some justice served (if Reddit is to be believed, the cop gave the woman two tickets).

Yeah I agree with the shrug it off thing. I probably would have beeped and looked over like wtf pay attention but that would have been it. And I would have tried to get as far away from her as possible because you NEVER know nowadays if a person will snap out and shoot you or use their vehicle as a weapon.

Violence every day in the news and on tv... it's everywhere... smh I am NOT about to provoke anyone I come across in this world.

Looks like a failure to ride defensively.

All you guys say shrug it off and let her go, and I agree. But, I deal with that and worse on the road Evey day. Most of the time adrenalin kicks in and we do stupid stuff. Old ladies riding my ass at 70mph on back roads becomes an adventure and challenge :dunno_black: Those nuts need to get toe fungus in their ears. :thumb:

There's a fine line between defending your lane and putting yourself in harm's way and I think he crossed it.

He begins honking before she even passes the white lines, meaning he saw this situation WELL in advance, and after she had no reaction to his horn he just stayed the course and kept honking, then confronted her, and she ignored him.  Then he pretty much forces himself in front of her and then runs to the police.

Honestly, it's cool that the police took him at face value and came to his aide, but "She tried to run me off the road" is a broad overstatement if you ask me.  Did she get a citation?  Maybe, but did he get one as well?  Because it seems to me that although she was an inattentive driver he instigated the situation.
If the video was given as evidence of her negligence it also shows his inability to cooperate in traffic.

If it was me?  Honk horn to warn driver they are encroaching.  No response?  Get the f%$k out of the way.  Maybe choice words and a hand-gesture in the moment, VERY slight chance of a confrontation if legally stopped along side them at the next intersection or something.  But I wouldn't go out of my way to make it a bigger problem than it is.  I tried that once when a driver passed me in my own lane, I stopped along side them to yell at them.
I got cold eyes, silence, and crossed arms in response.  No "I'm sorry", no "f%$k you", just silence.  It's kind of hard to keep raging when someone doesn't respond, and that stare honestly scared me more than being passed in my own lane did.  So I just got the hell out of Dodge.

So I try to avoid conflict.  I'll attempt to defend my lane but if someone is intent on taking it I'll back down.

This.  A little cooperation goes a long way.  I've gone thousands of miles without getting into sticky situations or had any road rage incidents and I attribute it to being cooperative and conservative.

There was a moto vlog channel I used to watch where the guy would get into dicey and dangerous situations and was constantly confronting people about minor traffic law infractions.  The guy ended up crashing into a vehicle making an illegal u turn.  He never released the footage but I think there is a good chance that he saw they wanted to make the turn and decided to stand his ground and force the issue.

Of course I'm being self-righteous myself.  Everyone makes mistakes and we all sometimes let our emotions take control.

Yep I see this stuff all the time too, I never would've kept up beside her like that, all she had to do was swerve a bit more and you were in the oncoming lane of traffic... no thanks!

He had it on video, give her a beep/yell/whatever, back off, get behind her, then go see the police if you so desire. I do agree with his decision to involve the police, too many people get away with too much in traffic simply by not paying attention.

People need to understand they are driving a lethal weapon and need to take responsibilities for their actions or lack thereof...

This right here!!! People are so negligent and unaware of what they are doing... they just get comfortable driving like oh I don't have to pay attention or nothing's gonna happen to me, etc. It's like wake up people you are controlling a huge rolling thing that has the power to hurt and kill... it's scary sometimes to think about how not serious people are about paying constant attention while driving.

I'm done now
