Hey there. It looks like I may be in for a valve cover gasket change. It is my understanding that there are 6 o-rings around the valve cover bolts that need changing as well after taking off the valve cover.

Does anyone have any experience with full gasket kits like this one: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Athena-Complete-Gasket-Kit-Suzuki-GS500-89-00-P400510850502-0934-0050-952816-/331357885359?hash=item4d267813af:g:1vgAAOSwiDFYRXbx&vxp=mtr

My engine is from a 500F. Would all these gaskets transfer? I know the engine was virtually unchanged between models.

Alternatively, does anyone know the size of those o-rings? Most gaskets i see come as just the gasket, and not with the rings that need changing as well. This is if I just get the gasket and rings. I thought i might as well get the whole kit in case something needs changing in the future.
E body with an F engine. I call her Sheila. She's got plenty of problems, but I'm here to sort her out and get her in tip-top shape.

Same kit I bought, still working in bike but they fit my gs500e perfectly it's a 2000 but I'm pretty sure most of the gs500 use the same gaskets, that has the cam gasket, the o rings for the Allen bolts and new seals for the cam valves along with other orings and gaskets for the rest of the engine

You may or may not need to change the o rings however , you won't know until it's apart and you can check them, the cam gasket could be re usable as well as its all rubber and not under a whole lot of torque just remember to use liquid gasket around those cam gear ends (half circles)

this is true. Sometimes you can also acquire orings at a local auto parts place. I have along with oil filters as well.

I have used the athena gaskets. They fit fine but as soon as you touch them you see that they are not as nice as the OEM gaskets. I've used them when I know I will need to be back into that part of the engine some time soon.

Be aware that the sump gasket (bottom of engine) IS different for models with/without an oil cooler. All the others should fit.

I have them, too. they're good enough for the price.

the two metal gaskets. are so-so I think. they ooze the rubberize coating a little bit from the heat, so if you have silver heads, you can see the two parting lines after a couple of hard heats.

if you aren't going that deep, don't worry about it. but if you can go with the OEM for those two pieces. or as others have said, if you plan on being back down in there anytime soon, just use them there's nothing really wrong with them.
