Tygon gas line - protect lines?

Hey, all-

I recently replaced my frame petcock and fuel lines with clear Tygon fuel line that I got from another GSTwinnner. The seller included the fuel line in a sale of a frame petcock which had the black fuel lines still attached. Those lines had a mesh cover on them. They look kinda like black Chinese finger traps. Didn't think much about the mesh sleeves until reading a post on here about some fuel lines not being US DOT approved for road use, protection of fuel lines and such. I've been bopping around for a few weeks now with the nekkid Tygon line working a treat so far, but I don't want to cause trouble for my moto by treating the lines improperly. I hadn't even thought about slipping the sleeves on the Tygon lines, but are they necessary? Does anyone have experience with naked fuel lines failing? What about the protective Chinese finger trap sleeves?

Hey I just moved to a new province, and due to the mods on my 06 gs500 it'll never pass the out of province inspection. so, I was checking around and found a killer deal on a 93 in good shape, just terrible colors. so what i am interested in is how useful my 06 will be as a donor bike in general and for the gas tank and tail plastics specifically, thanks

I've got a 12v battery in my gs500 and it's run totally flat over winter. I've borrowed a charger that does 6v and 12v and have been told to charge at 6v, its been on for four hours and not moved. Should I be using 12v setting?

I need a new battery for my 1999 gs. Can anyone recommend one? All I've seen appear to need filling with acid and charging? This isn't something I've ever done before!

Hi guys, new GS500 owner here as of tonight and I already have a query/problem that I'm hoping someone could help pin point for me...

Basically upon driving home tonight it felt like both tyres were flat and causing the steering to feel loose and not accurate...  I pulled over to the nearest service station to check the tyre pressures and the front was down to 21psi so I pumped it up to 30 psi which did make it feel better but it's still not right.

It's not long had an mot so I'm hoping it's not something like the swing arm bushing worn out or wheel bearings...  There was no untoward knocks or bangs during the ride home and the head stock bearings seem fine when rocking the bike front and back.

Any clues or experiences with this issue? I learnt on one back in 2010 and it definitely didn't feel like this.

Hi guys.
I found out I cannot unscrew the oil removal screw in the bottom of the engine, I probably messed it up the last time I have changed my oil and it's corners are dull

I cannot reach it cleanly with a pipe wrench or any wrench for that matter because of the fins surrounding it and a socket just slips and makes it even worse.

I cannot easily move the bike to a shop since it is not in a tip top shape.

Do you have any idea other than make a cut with an angle grinder and try to spin it with a hammer and a sizzle?

Thank you

Hi all, I recently picked up a 02 gs500. As it was sitting around for a year, I took apart the carbs and cleaned them. I also cleaned out the tank as well. I managed to have everything reassembled and with about 1.5 l of fuel, it was happy and running. This morning I took the bike to the gas station and filled 10 l of fuel and that's when I noticed my tank overflow/vent line was leaking fuel. the only way I got home was to pinch/prop the line between my seat and my tank, keeping it vertical. When I blow a bit of compressed air into the tank vent hole (under the tank lid) the hose spurted out a bit of fuel.

What has happened? My worst fear is that the vent tube inside my tank has broken and that is why I'm leaking.
The pic attached is the vent hole I mentioned.

Hello all you loveable gs500 enthusiasts. I recently got myself an 89' gs500. But after some research I couldn't find any gs500 like mine? Mine has double headlamps and a fairing kit like none other? Anyone know about this?
