Hello all,

just got news from mechanic that flywheel (stripped bolts) and stator clutch assembly (one of the assembly pieces is broken) need replacement... the quoted parts came in pretty high >500, so I was wondering if anyone has an alternative that's more budget friendly...

The bike is 05 gs f, with about 27k miles on it...

Have a look at what he says, and get us some pictures. You have every right to check out what he is saying...

Where are you based???

If in the US ebay will sort you out in 5 minutes.... If elsewhere a bit harder....

This seems to be a common problem on these bikes.

When it happened to mine, I purchased a starter clutch/generator assembly off eBay for less than $100 (used but good condition).
Although the generator magnets look different across the years, they all have the same dimensions and are functionally the same. So for your 2005 GS500F, you can buy a used starter clutch from any year GS500. 1989 - 2009 in USA. My 2006 GS500F has a 1989 GS500E generator/starter clutch assembly in it.
I am 80% sure that the assembly from a GS450E will work as well. Sometimes they sell for cheaper on eBay.

Here is my story fixing this myself a few years ago:

Thanks guys, haven't had a chance to take pictures - I'll check out ebay but last time I did not see the parts - flywheel is really the one that's the most expensive, so if I can find that cheaper, I'm happy

Here is the whole assembly from a GS450 for $55.

Like I said, I'm 80% sure this will fit a GS500 and be functionally equivalent.

Aslo, someone is parting out an engine on this forum. You could contact them about these parts.

Thank you - those do like the parts in question, I'll post pictures if I can reduce them enough
