Gas tanks help!!

Hey guys,

Bought a 08gs500F last year as my first ever bike. Had to learn everything when I got it.. it ran solid until a little bit ago, had rust flakes in the tank floating around. So unhooked it and started the "Kreem" kit. That did NOT work. As the top started peeling immediately and now I have giant flakes of the Kreem dangling off the sides. I really didn't want to have to use acid in it again so have been using vinegar and bolts and it really worked for the top as theirs no rust but I still have the giant flakes dangling. Does anyone know any other tanks that are compatible or how I could find out? Anyone might have one for sale? I haven't been able to find the right one for under 1k which is almost what I paid for the bike.. If anyone can help or have tips to get the coating off I'd GREATLY appreciate it. This forum has helped me a few times now without posting or asking anyone.. but looks like my luck has ran out. Thanks I'm advance everyone!

2001+ Tanks are all the same shape. 2009 was the last year in the US. Canada had 2010, Australia had a few more years and they still make the bike in Columbia. Each year has different colors if you care about that but any '01+ tank will bolt up without any modification.
For $1k I hope you are looking at brand new tanks. You should be able to find a used tank in good shape for $200 or $300.

Ok thanks! Yes the ones for $1k were brand new. All the ones I'm finding used are like you said about $200-300 but allot are dented or scratched. Guess just gonna have to pick one that's least messed up. Knowing I can use an 01 and up though might help a little more. Thanks again!

I think you can use pre 2001+ but you might need to adapt/modify your seat to suit.
