so yeah. I got this bike in 2018, came to this forum and acted like a fool. I left, and have since then actually made something of a career out of working on motorcycles. My GS has finally gotten the stuff i wanted to do to it in '18, but didn't have the skills to pay the bills to do it.

this is just phase 1. I have to paint the swing arm, and the wheels, and install a katana shock and wrap the pipes, change out the master cylinder to a pee-cup style and a new chain and brake pads. all of the parts i have sitting, so there's no waiting, its only doing.

The specs are as such: Lowered, clips, stock jetting with the stock airbox, and I've cut the pipe down right after the collector, and installed a little shorty can on it.

Before the only mod was i had dirt bike bars on it.

I work full time at a tuning shop, So i have plenty of tools and plenty of fun. This bike has seen the shop dyno a few times, and actually picked up horse power after i cut that stupid can off of it.

Anyway, i'll just continue to update this thread as I go. All of the work mentioned I'm doing in the coming weeks.

edit: I also obtained the rear center plastic that holds the back end together. How many of you got a bike without one? I went 4 years with a piece of plastic there and finally found one on ebay recently. its purple. probably gonna leave it. felt so good to complete the bike.

edit edit: and please save your effort if you're going to tell me to rejet it, and what to rejet it to. I'm a tuner, with access to a dyno. I know what my bikes afr makes.

this is what it looked like at the beginning of the month. i also have an ebay wind screen/fairing for the front that I also took off because I really didn't like it.

I really like that era of GS500 graphics. The clip-ons look cool. My ears hurt just looking at that exhaust though.

Yea, you should jet it to ... LOL.
Seriously though post your jetting and resulting dyno run etc etc.

lmao. the only graph I have currently is from the bike stock on the dyno after I removed the plastic washer from the needle. We haven't run it after cutting the exhaust (so i guess I don't truly know do i lol) only because it was noticably better both audibly and mechanically (probably bc the can had carbon build up in it resulting in too much back pressure). when we have a moment afer work we will probably throw it on one of our dynos to see. I think its running rich at idle due to me probably setting the idle mix screw too rich. i think its 3 out, when i really want 2.5

www.midwestperformancetuning.com is the shop I work at.

we have a KL supply account which offers just about all the jets i need. mikuni products too.

I've had some bad luck with K&L supply carb parts. Especially float valve needles. I try to stick to Mikuni parts whenever I can.
