Yesterday, while I was looking at the GS500, which I later bought, I noticed it had two stands a kickstand and a centerstand.  What is the purpose of the two, when should one be used over the other. And how do you get the damn thing on the centerstand!  I felt like a moroon when i couldnt get it to roll up on it, then the owner told me he never got it up either.

Little help here?!
thanks,
adam

The motorcycle is no longer the hobby, the skill has become the hobby.

Power does not compare to skill.  What good is power without the skill to use it?

good judgement trumps good skills every time.

To get bike up on centerstand:

Put bike on level surface, stand facing bike on left side of bike.

Put one hand on handlebar, the other one on either rear grab handle or under the seat holding the rear subframe.

With your right foot (doesn't really matter which way it is pointing) apply pressure to centerstand peg and while keeping pressure on it, make the bike stand upright on the centerstand(instead of leaning on sidestand) if you try to push the bike upright with your hands, you might tip it over on it's right side  :o

Now with a sideways motion (kinda like doing the Seattle fish catch and toss) put all your weight on the centerstand while rocking the bike rearwards.

If the bike doesn't make it up on the stand, keep pressure on the centerstand (to keep the bike from tipping), and don't let the bike rock back to the left, since that would fold the centerstand back up.

Installation of a Kat 600 shock makes the whole process easier    All I need to do is stand on the centerstand peg and the bike goes right up!  8)
