It got damaged when a taxi thought it would be a good idea to make a random u-turn infront of me. I also have little experience doing maintenance on bikes, so i dont know the names of all the parts needed for replacement. I do however know that almost everything attached to the front end is finished. I am still fighting with the insurance company cause here in Japan they assign percentages of fault for any accident. That means i will not have any money for parts untill i get my claim settled. I just thought it would be useful to post anyway so if someone is getting ready to get rid of some parts they can let me know. I have attached some before and after pix oth the bike and my leg.

Love the color on that bike! My favorite! Shame it had to go down and get banged up like that. Couldn't you have tried any harder to protect it better with your body?!!
As far as your parts, i have what you need whether it's gonna be a set of GS replacement forks, a Katana front end swap, or a GSXR front end swap. PM-ing you now...
Glad you're ok too - Bob!

I think no matter what i was wearing the impact to my leg would have been the same, the rest of my body is ok and the bike didnt fare too bad i think. Sorry my body was not big enough to protect it. It just was a dissapointment cause i brought it to Japan and spent all kinds of $$$ getting it to pass their inspection. It was great to have everyone looking at my bike and loving it for the 6 days i had a tag on it though!
RG-V250 is a direct bolt on USD front end!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
and you can get them in japan
super sweet front end
^----- Werase is like Buddha, except he knows what he's talking about. I'd look into that : )
There can B only one... BIGSHOT!
The forks look like they can be straightened.
Atleast the left one does, right - no idea you need a pic from the other side ...
Cool.

I didnt know that was possible, is it a kinda safe thing to do???? and my bracket that holds the fender brace thing is broken
Fork lowers are a dime a dozen. Fork lowers never get damaged, and uppers rust, bend, get gouged etc ... I have a couple sitting round, but mail to japan will kill it for $$$, You can have it free.
Straightening the thick walled steel works well, typically the chrome on it is brittle, you look for any signs of damage in that, and if you dont see any, you've not affected the steel enough to hurt it, just strighten it (need a well skilled press operator and accurate V blocks which they oughta have and you would be fine. However remember in repeated crashes it will start to turn brittle, but, 1 crash wont affect it, Just dont bend it over and over again, and past 3-4 times its gonna start to show signs of stess and crap out.
I have straightened GS legs quite OK. However my guy has a ton of expertise, and he will straighten anything and get it to work, as well as tell you when something is DOA. He isn't cheap ... yea try 40-50 bucks per leg, and you have to separate it and hand him the uppers only, so you have to do seals when done.
IMHO, GS junk aint worth it. but I have access to Kat crap for about that same $$ outlay. If you do, I'd take that option.
Cool.
Buddha.
thanks for all the replies, I am currently still fighting with the insurance company. They like to assign percentages of fault. I am currently 15% at fault. That means if they settle on the total being $1000 i only get $850. I am also working to get parts from Big Shot. I just want to know if anyone has any advice from experience on how to keep shipping costs down when sending to a APO, AP address.
if you get caught posting it as books/skool supplies they will spank your pee pee
but it is cheaper
seriously look at local breakers you have access to sh!t we will never see
you could probably get some kewl 400cc USD or 250 USD front end look at yamaha and suzuki for easiest fit
So what in japan there are no GS500's ?
And ...
You cannot find RGV250 stuff ?

there are no GS500's here, some older GS models though.
All bikes and parts here hold resale value here, so if i could find this RGV250 you talk of the parts would be very expensive.
Hi Harry,
A "breaker" is Brit for "salvage yard."
Good luck and I hope you are feeling better,

Here are some updated pix of all the damage and I have a few questions. While i was working on it i realized how much i still love my GS! It could have more power, or look better but for a bike that i bought just to learn to ride i love it very much.

The first set of wires (brown & black/white) go to nothing on a US bike. They are for a front parking light on euro-spec models. Listed as "sidelight" on wiring diagram. Handy as a source of switched power for accessories.
The clutch switch wires get bypassed because the clutch switch is prone to failure, corrosion, etc. Either reconnect them or fix/replace the clutch switch and then reconnect them. You'll find matching wires & connectors connected to each other in the main harness - just connect to the clutch switch wires. You'll probably find that your bike won't start because the clutch switch is probably having problems - and then you'll fix it, if you don't check it and fix it first.
Junkyard/scrapyard/breaker/used parts/what have you would be well worth looking into. You're not looking to buy a whole used bike that's holding its value, you are looking to buy the front end off a bike with a rear end collision or a blown motor, etc.
if you are at kadena or futemna then you can have a friend send you something from the states. If thats not an option then post office is the cheapest because you only pay for shipping to san francisco and the military picks up the rest of the tab.

They don't go to anything. We get the same wiring harness as everybody else, but one less light, so they are
not connected to anything. Very simple.

so can it take the extra load of a fog light if i want to put one on?
well after waiting over a year I finally got the money from the insurance company $1,600
The guy thats going to fix the bike says I should get the carb and brakes rebuilt cause it sat for a year, the carb is a good ideal and I already got the jet kit from The Buddha. Do I really need the brake seals replaced if they are not leaking?
also good info on where to order these kits would be great!
Looks like thins are finally starting to come together! The bike shop said it should be about $1,300 to fix. Ordered a Vance&Hines pipe, new helmet, and starting to get the other little things needed.
Should be back on the bike in a month if the frame fix goes as planned.
Just came in the mail today!

I wouldn't worry about rebuilding the brakes, but bleeding them with some new brake fluid would probably be a good option. V&H exhausts look so nice when they're new. It looks like yours is like mine as well... when you hold the exhaust up how it will be mounted, does that tip at the back end curve in towards the bike slightly instead of down? I assumed there was something wrong with mine, but maybe they just make them all like that.
What front end did you decide to go with? A couple people here are just finishing up some USD gsxr front end swaps and they all look great.

already had the brakes rebuilt, cost like $75 for calipers and master cyl all around
not sure about the tip, bike is still in the shop
I stuck with the stock front end, it was just so cheap for all the parts. Also I didnt want to have to get parts from all kinds of bikes to do future repairs if needed

also have a question...i know the bar is 7/8". I am in need of new grips but dont understand how both grips can be 7/8'' cause the throttle has to be bigger then the bar...that means the right grip has to be larger
my GS has been at the shop so long I have forgot what it looks like and also cannot just go look at it myself to answer this question.
Do you have the grips with you, and you see that they're both 7/8ths on the inside, or did you buy some and saw the package said "for 7/8 bars"? Your right that they can't both be 7/8ths, and the right needs to be bigger, but if you're just curious because the package said they were for 7/8th bars then they have already factored in the throttle tube, as all bikes with 7/8ths bars have the same size throttle tube.
The only difference might be if you accidentally picked up some grips for a quad than has a thumb throttle, but that's pretty unlikely. As long as they're meant for a motorcycle you'll be set.

The only problem now is it still needs to have the jet it adjusted. I also have not got it to start in a month, think it may have bent a valve. Its a money pit and I am almost sure it will stay in its homeland of Japan when I come back to the USA next June.
Awwww! No bring her home to Buddha he will fix her with osmosis!
well I finally got in all the parts for the bike, guy who did the frame work misplaced my stuff >:(
Bike will not start cause it is not getting fuel. Took the tank off to find out what is going on. The main chicken in the tank is working and fuel comes out of the tank but don't get past the pet chicken. So before I spend another $100 or so on a new pet chicken. I was wondering if the pet chicken needs a vacuum to open. Looked all in the repair manual and it says nothing about it. Put a pic up of what I am talking about.
Yes, petcock needs vacuum to operate, unless it is set on "prime". Suggest you pull the fuel line off the carb, set the petcock on prime and see if fuel flows.

Little update on me. Came back to the states in july 2011. Barley put 15 miles on the GS after the crash. It ran like dog butt. Haven't put gas or a battery back in it after shipping it back stateside. Think a valve may be bent also. I have been spending all my time and money into rebuilding my Nissan 240sx. Will have to get a different jet kit and a new pet chicken before I try to get it on the road again.
I have kind of lost interested in riding though. So I may not even waste my time and money trying to get it running. May just end up parting it out. I was always frustrated by the hanging idle problem of the GS. If I ever get a bike after this it will be fuel injected.
Where in the states are you at?

Currently thinking of parting it out, got too much wrong with it to fix now. Not to mention it will still have the usual GS problems. Going to the desert for six months and will figure out what to do with it when I get back. All my money made there will go to bills and my car...so none for the GS.

Yeah I still haven't tried to get it to run. Less than 25 miles on it after a rebuild that cost me over $2,000. Time to part it out and take the huge loss. It don't run and haven't worked on it in over three years. Things are still decent on it just Okinawa weather made it rust a lot. Let me know if you need any parts. Going to take it out of the garage and get pictures and prices soon.
