Silly question.  My full face helmet's visor keeps snapping shut on me once I get around 50+.  I HATEHATEHATE riding with it down all the way.   :guns:

This wasn't really a problem when the helmet was new, but I think it was because the visor was tighter. :dunno:

Is there anything I can do to stop it from closing so easily?  Its really a bit scary when it snaps shut from 2+ clicks open.  heh.

What brand helmet is it?  Things like this are on the list of improvements you get when you buy a better helmet.

HJC, I think.
It was in the 180 range for price, and was the type of helmet my rider friends had, and it was the right color.

If you NEVER close your lid then perhaps you could glue a small wedge of foam or plastic near the back corners of the visor to stop it shutting.

I'd prefer foam as under preassure (i.e. in a crash) the foam will not stop the
faceplate closing and wil not ping off possibly into the helmet.

if you don't like having the visor closed, why not remove it?

yeah, my HJC ALWAYS fogs up if I close it all the way. this happens only during my city commutes but thats like 90% of my riding. I like the idea of taping a wedge. Perhaps all you need to do is add a few pieces of thick (duct) tape to a corner to keep it from closing shut all the way.

I never had that happen with my HJC CL-12.  Just the opposite.  It would be closed and I would do a shoulder check and it would pop open.  I never left it open while moving at any speed.  Dirt and bugs would fly in.  Once moving more than about 15 MPH it wouldn't fog up, even in the winter.

Not sure what model you have exactly, but is there anything on the "hinge" that you could tighten?  Some people were having problems with the visor flipping up and that seemed to do the trick.  Could try contacting the manufacturer as well.

Mine only fogs up like that when I stop at a light or something.  As long as I am moving it stays nice and clear.  I think there is a breath guard or something you can buy to help.

all lids close when you hit some speed, they are designed to be closed.  if it is fogin up get some defoger or use the mouth piece that came with it. i always use mine and it never fogs or is hot in the summer.

I don't like riding with it closed.  it feels confined and hot to me.  Oh, its the cl-14.

I prefer to keep it open just a tiny bit., but now that it moves easier, it won't stay open that little bit at all.

The fogging is usually only an issue at stopsigns, and cool mornings, but that can be dealt with.  Maybe I'll try a wedge like someone mentioned, I'd be happy with just that 1/4" if it would stay.

Oh, and I've tried riding with it all the way open and my eyes water, even with glasses.  So maybe I'm just a whiner.   :mrgreen:

Cut a slice off the bottom of it and keep it closed. Love that little GS, forum is just wonderful.

Do you mean Dremel a couple of notches for vents in the bottom edge of the visor?

Speaking from experience, try to get used to riding with the visor down.  With the visor cracked open to let some air in my Icon, I have had a gust of wind blow dust and dirt in my eyes ..... I almost crashed.  I also have had a wasp enter my helmet through the visor crack and that doesn't feel very good.  Try on different helmets, some are roomier than others and offer better ventilation.  

I do crack open the visor at stops and to clear fogging when necessary, but when everything is good I close it immediately.

Just my opinion.

hi, im new on here. have been looking through the posts and thought i should post.

Yesterday i was quite happily riding along (with my visor open about 1/4 inch because i find it gets too hot) when a wasp flew into my visor and stung me just below my left eye.

Let this be a lesson!!

Kinda explains the reluctance to post a pic of yourself now....

The visor should be on a "notch" system where usually on the left side you can adjust the tention of the "clicks" to keep it where ever you want.  Plus, check to see that it doesn't have a little fog lever on the left side where the visor attaches/pivots.  Flip it up when at a stop or whenever fog appears and alittle bit of air is let in. On most, but not all helmets. Hope this helps.
