hey,

I was at my buddys house and all was well until i walk outside his house to go home, and what do i see? my f%$king bike is laid down on the f%$king ground. I got my buddy out and we looked at the damage, and the cluth lever is bent, then left side fairing is scratched and the magneto cover is bent in. I am so pissed. Just thought i would vent some steam a bit. We are guessing someone pushed it over, as there is no hole in the pavement, so it didnt sink in, somoene must have sat on it or something. who knows. But man, after i claim it, who fixes it? the dealer?

Stefan.

we got government owned insurance, so i dont know exactly if thats what they are going to do. I got in a accident with my car, and the insurance didnt move one bit and i was at fault, and my bike accident, thats not my fault at all.

Same thing happened to me.  Was checking the oil and felt the bike shift, so I quickly stood up and started to walk around to the other side when she just slowly fell over.  Couldn't grab ahold of anything to stop it - talk about a sick feeling.

I was luckier than you - the only damage to my bike was a bent clutch lever and a few scratches on the magneto cover that are not worth the trouble to fix - no scratches to the fairing at all (whew).

I bought the clutch lever at my Suzuki dealer - they charged me about $9 +tax which was cheaper than I could find online once shipping was figured in.  It's easy enough to fix on your own.

In retrospect, I think the problem is that I didn't kick the kickstand far enough forward in that it wasn't locked into place all the way.  Same thing might have happened to you.

You might also try leaving it in gear just in case the ground isnt flat. this will keep the bike from creeping forward and coming off the stand.

Just keep an eye on your battery charge. When I bashed in my magneto cover I later had to replace the stator since it ended up having a break in the wire. Take a close look at it when you remove it and use an ammeter to check the continuity.

Always use the centerstand when you're working on the bike or going to be leaving it somewhere for a long period of time (like away for the winter).  That way accidental bumps don't send it crashing down.

i am gonna go buy a cluth lever tomorrow, i cant even use it as it is. Ill need a new turn lense also and a mirror too. I claimed it today with the insurance company. I got an appointment monday. I claimed it as a hit and run, cauz anything could have happened to it. Someone coulda sat on it and dropped it, or someone could have pushed it forward with their car. Who knows.

Don't sweat it too much, I dropped my bike twice within the first week I had it.  Wasn't a scratch on it when I got it but now it's got character.  Good luck with the claim.  Ask autopac if they know who you should take it to for fixing.

doesn't the sidestand give a wider footprint?  i would think that would be more stable.

It is generally not necessary to think that someone knocked your bike down - If you park on the side stand, not in gear - without the front wheel lockeed to the side that would result in a role dragging the sidestand more firmly toward the front wheel -  and the bike is even remotely pointed downhill, it is quite likely to fall over all by itself - I learned this the hard way a long time ago watching my bike fall over without anyone near it.  Always park so that "downhill" is towards the rear wheel.  That way any rolling force locks the stand even more firmly in the "up" position.  And, to fall sideways, the bike has to lever the center of gravity UP  -  quite unlikely.

The sidestand does give a better, more stable triangle for long term parking - Even wider if you have a GSXR or GSX shock

I know how you feel stefman, I managed to drop my bike about three weeks ago... Was on my way home from work, it had been a stressful day and I forgot to remove the brake lock  :? Can you believe it?? Needless to say the bike didn't go very far until it leaned to the left (I was leaning slightly to the left)... I managed to put my foot down and keep it from falling too hard on the ground, but I still managed a bent clutch lever (which I replaced the day after) some scratches to the fairing and a sligthly bent gear shifter... I was not happy at all... and can you believe that two days later the bike almost fell over again after it was parked on its sidestand (it slowly started rolling forward)???  :o But fortunately I had a friend with me and we managed to catch it...

I haven't done anything to it yet (except change the clutch lever), I'm gonna park it for winter soon. Next year in mar-apr it's up for service, I might do it then. Oh did I forget to mention the scratches on the left mirror and turn signal  :? ? My left mirror is now a bit more "shaky" btw  :x I need to take care of that as well... The bike has full insurance but it would still cost me around 350 $ to fix it... Maybe I'll come up with an excuse that it was knocked over while parked for winter or something...

it sux yeah....  :(
